The moonlight shadowed and shifted on her skin as she slid from the bed with a reluctant sigh. She pulled her robe over her head, and stood for a quiet moment, staring at him. In his arms, she found a doorway out of her ruined heart, in merciful adultery.
Perhaps in daylight hours she might be horrified; her friends, family and husband would certainly be.
But here, as her heart stilled after rising passion, she smiled and bent to press a kiss to his sleeping eyes, his relaxed mouth.
“Stay,” Severus murmured.
And her heart almost broke again. “Next time.”
