Time to recap

Jan 26, 2015 23:08

Goodness, if I were to base my year on lj-alone, it'd be pretty daggone boring.

So let's have a survey! Remembering 2014.....

1. What did you do in 2014 that you'd never done before?: I went to a hockey game in Washington, DC. That was new. Saw Aladdin on Broadway. Probably some other stuff..

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?: My New Year's resolutions were to blog more. I didn't do that. Boo on me.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?: Not anyone close, but a few people that I know.

4. Did anyone close to you die?: No, thankfully.

5. What countries did you visit?: USA, Canada

6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?: more adventures! (though I did have adventures in 2014, there can never be enough!)

7. What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?:
Hmm... August 15 is when we did The Grand Scenic Route Murder Mystery (the play I (co)wrote a few years ago) again. It was a blast.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?: Making the train play happen. I had a great team helping me though!

9. What was your biggest failure?: not hitting my fitbit goals often enough.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Anything bad?: Just the time I tripped and gave myself that gross scrape that took a month to heal and still is a nasty nasty scar.

11. What were the best things you bought?: train tickets to take the little nephews to NYC with 'Nee, all 3 seasons of Sherlock on DVD

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?: Mandie, Mindy, and Eric for helping me out immensely with the train play. I could not have done it without them!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?: Well, Heather randomly unfriended me after 23 years. That was pretty wild but I'm over it.

14. Where did most of your money go?: BOOKS, junk food, adventures

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?: the train play, NYC with the kids, seeing Better Than Ezra in October, Morgan's visit in March, Outlander on tv, (and the newest book which came out in June), 'Nee coming back stateside, Coriolanus and Frankenstein (NTLive)

16. What song/s will always remind you of 2014? -

Anything from The Gaslight Anthem's album "Get Hurt"
Anything by July for Kings

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. Happier or sadder?: Happier because I have a lot of fun planned in the next few months
ii. Thinner or fatter?: about the same
iii. Richer or poorer?: sameish I think

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?: exercising. I wish I'd made more pisanki eggs too. And blogged more (here and at my poor abandoned hockey blog)

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?: Hmm well I spent an absurd amount of time reading fanfiction, but I'm not ashamed, so I don't care about that. Less eating junk food?

20. How will you be spending Christmas?: Spent it with the fam in Ohio. It was FABULOUS.

21. Did you fall in love in 2014: with Benedict Cumberbatch. heh

22. How many one-night stands?: zerooooo

24. What was your favorite TV program?: Arrow, OUTLANDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, The Flash is pretty cool

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?: nope

26. What was the best book you read?: "Written in My Own Heart's Blood" by Diana Gabaldon

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?: July for Kings

28. What did you want and get?: to do the train play again

29. What did you want and not get?: uhm.. well I had a few crushes that didn't pan out. Does that count?

30. What was your favorite film of this year?: it wasn't exactly a film, but seeing Coriolanus at the movie theatre was the COOLEST. Actual movie-wise, I guess I would say THE LEGO MOVIE! Everything is Awesome! For real though, that movie was hysterical, especially as someone who played with LEGOs as a kid (and still does.) Also, double-decker couches are the best invention of all time. And X-Men:Days of Future Past- BECAUSE MICHAEL FASSBENDER. Also Guardians of the Galaxy was pretty great.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?: I turned 33. Most of my fam was away, but I had lunch with my brother-in-law and then watched a few episodes of Arrow with him and my nephew Alex that evening. When the fam came back the next day we had cake. It was chill and a good birthday. :)

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?: Hmmm it really was a good year. I wish 'Nee had been here (she was in Europe for over half the year which wasn't much fun) Also, we didn't to do birthday hockey with Dannie for the first time since 2007. :(

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2014?: nothing has changed

34. What kept you sane?: reading, daydream adventure chats with Morgan ;)

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?: BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH. Also Tom Hiddleston. Occasional moments of Michael Fassbender and Sam Heughan.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?: argh

37. Who did you miss?: Nee, Morgan, Dannie (didn't get to see her AT ALL in 2014! This is not okay.)

38. Who was the best new person you met?: Hmm.. did I even meet anyone new? Janelle! I think I had met her before, technically, she's my friend Mandie's sister, but we didn't hang out until this year.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014: Don't let the man get you down.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

"How many nights did I crash against the waves
with my going under
How many days did I spend
trying to see it your way?

If you tried you'd remember
I changed, changed, kept on saying..
One of these days something inside is going to break
And we won't get it back now, baby

If I thought it would help, I would carve your name into my heart

All of the things that I tried to explain
How something inside of me is starting to break
We were living proof
One by one we drifted away

One by one and day by day
I became the dark in the places where we lived"
-The Gaslight Anthem "Dark Places"

"Where mighty men lay down their hearts
In the service of their queens.
And gave their bodies to be burned
Like I did before your feet.

Like she always tried for me,
Like now she does for me.

And underneath the tyranny of august and her sons,
Who sent fire from their fingertips in the holy vow of a teenage kiss.
Now we're much too old for this,
And I don't feel those kinds of things.

So don't you cry for me,
I used to feel everything."

-The Gaslight Anthem "Stray Paper"
