what is what

Well, keeping with my "post every month or so" tradition, here's the July update.

-The play is coming along. I've had to write out a few characters, and change up some things cuz we don't have as much cast this time around, but I think it's going to work. It better work. Show is in 5 weeks!

-Going to the Ren Fest next weekend with Mindy and Mandie. Should be fun, as always. it's Pirate weekend, so that should be rockin. :)

-'Nee gets back stateside in a few weeks, and for Labor Day weekend, she and I are taking the 2 younger nephews to NYC for the weekend. They are thrilled! We're going to see Aladdin on Broadway, the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Bldg, maybe the Natural History Museum, and whatever else we decide to do. Taking the train, (of course-- and it's CHEAP!) so that will be awesome.

-Have I talked about it here or not? *if you're friends with me on fb, you'll totally know about this* but one of my favorite books, Diana Gabaldon's Outlander (and I think I have determined, though it was a tough call, that Jamie Fraser is my favorite fictional character of all time) is being made into a series on Starz?!

It looks incredible. The casting is superb, Diana has been involved through the whole process and I cannot WAIT to see it! The official premiere is Aug 9 but it will be online (free!) on August 2. That's 3 weeks from now! :):):):)

And, speaking of Jamie, Claire, et al- the 8th book Written in my Own Heart's Blood came out on June 10. It was SO GOOD. The last one came out 5 years ago.. and it was so lovely to go back into that world. I might have to read it again. Or just read Outlander again, even though I just read it at Christmas.

YAY books!

Also, if you know me on fb, you'll know this too, but in case you don't I got to tour a tall ship yesterday! Not just any tall ship, but the brig Niagara,
which was instumental in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812, no less. (well it's a replica, but still, HISTORY!) She was Commodore Perry's flagship at one point. And she's GORGEOUS. I have had a picture of this ship on my wall for 14 years, since I cut it out of the newspaper. It lives in Erie, PA, which is not far from here, but I've never made it there to visit. She came to Buffalo for the weekend, and they were offering deck tours so of course I had to go. What a lovely ship. They are doing a 6-hr sail tomorrow. Wish I could go but a) I have to work, b) it's $100 which I don't really have right now and c) I'd be monstrously sea-sick the whole time. SO I won't be sailing, though I really really want to. :/

I will go downtown on Monday around 1pm- hopefully the weather is decent, I'll take my lunch and have a picnic at canalside, to watch her sail away, because that is something I *need* to see. I missed her coming in, because I didn't know about it til the day of, and I was busy at work. BUt I should be able to sneak away for a few tomorrow. :)

That's about my life for the moment. Steve and Eric are coming on Friday for our 2nd annual crawfish boil. :) mmmmmmm crawfish.

life is busy, summer, plays, ships, fun
