Multislacking = having two or more non-work related web pages open on your work computer at one time.
That. Is. Hilarious.
:)
On to other matters. Today we visited Niagara Falls with Fr. Salle, who is our interim Priest while Fr. Joe is on sabbatical, and his friend Fr. Sam. They are both from Pakistan, but visit Buffalo every summer, and have been for 15 years or so. It was a nice visit. We did the maid of the mist boat tour, always a good time and I took some pictures, which I may or may not get around to posting eventually.
Then I came home and went to that audition.I think it went pretty well. There weren't too many people there, but there are only 2 female parts really so there isn't a lot of room for error. But I felt good about it and they are calling to tell people tomorrow so at least I don't have to wait long! And I heard about another opportunity, in Springville, which is about 20 mins from here- they have a theatre there and they are having auditions for "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change"- which is actually a musical, but I may give them a call and see if they need some non-singing parts too? It's worth a shot. Wooo!
Dont't think I'm going to see Ingram Hill tomrorow. GRRR. I REALLY WANTED TO GO but it's Cleveland which is 3 hrs away and I don't want to drive home by myself for 3 hrs cuz that's no fun and I have yet to find someone to come with me so.. blah! :(
Hey, today markes the 6th "birthday" of my car! :)
And now for serious matters, since it is September 11th:
_____
Was it really 7 years ago that the attacks of 9/11 happened? Seriously. Like most people, I can remember that day more clearly than so many other days. It was the first week of classes for my junior year of college. Class didn't start until Wednesday (well it actually didn't start 'till Thursday that year because of the events) so I was all set to enjoy my last day of freedom before school started but I was already on campus and stuff. I had stayed over at my boyfriend's house the night before and we woke up whenever it was and walked back to my apartment. When we walked in the door my 3 roommates and one of their boyfriends were all sitting around watching the tv. I was like- say what?- and when I first saw it, I thought it was some random movie or something. At that point only the first plane had hit and nobody really knew what was going on. They filled me in and then a few minutes later the 2nd plane hit and then it got scary.
My first thought was OH MY GOD is my Dad on a business trip? Because he travels all the time for business, all over the place. I called Mom and he was in town (phew) but we talked a little bit about what was going on and tried to get a handle on the whole thing. It was wild.
Most of the rest of the day was spent glued to the tv trying to come to grips with what were seeing. (and being a little afraid of what would happen next. Being surrounded by the largest inland air force base int he country was not exactly a comforting thought at that time.) I rememebr at one point in the afternoon, we heard this loud bang and went outside to see what it was.. and nothing. We later learned that it was a jet taking off that had broken the sound barrier creating a
"sonic boom" which was something they weren't supposed to do. I guess he was in a serious hurry. I knoew they keep the backup Air Force One plane at Wright Patt, and I think they sent it out to be ready just in case so maybe it had something to do with that. Whatever it was, it was weird and WAY scary, even for people who are used to c-141's flying over several times a day. That was unnerving too, seeing NO planes in the sky for 2 days. Once again, I grew up right next to an Air Force base and we had flyovers all day every day so not to have them was just surreal.
Obviously my personal experience was nothing like anyone who lived in New York City or was near the Pentagon, or the field near Shankesville, PA. And I didn't know anyone who was on a flight or in one of those places. I am very fortunate. But it still affected me and mae me see things a little differently. I think often about that day and the way it touched our whole country. In many ways, it drew us closer together.
LET US NEVER FORGET.
