okay here we go..

So to recap the trip to Ottawa..

We left on Friday around 1:00 or so. We had to stop on base so 'Nee could pick up some stuff she left there and get some paperwork, so I met "the Commander". He's rediculous and quite amusing. He kept giving us crap cuz we were going all the way to Ottawa to SKATE! And then we had this whole conversation about Mounties and getting stopped by the police or just some FAT, French-Canadian Mountie with a unibrow named "Rene- with one E"/.. I dont even know, maybe ya had to be there but it was funny.

So we left and the bridge to Canada through the 1000 Islands is actually 2 bridges and they are CREEPY and skinny and tall and eeeeek!

I don't know if that pic does it justice, but trust me, this is not a fun bridge to drive on!

Right oh, so we made it to Ottawa in short order, I think it only took 2 hrs.. so that was good.. we checked into the hotel and layered up and then hit the Rideau Canal!

AKA:

wheeee! It was COLD on Friday but the ice was good. Man that was hard though, my legs were SO tired halfway through! The canal is open for 7.8 kms and we skated the whole way there and then back. phew. I was so dead by the time we were done that I wasn't having much fun.. but it was a cool experience. :)

Then we ate at Don Cherry's Restaurant.. LOL that was tasty though. after that we just busted back to the hotel and slept cuz we were both done in.

Saturday we slept in a bit, then wandered over to Gatineau, in the lovely province of Quebec. There was French everywhere! (and very little english) it was quite disconcerting because I read it well but speak it poorly. We ate some some random place and I kinda tried the French but the waitress spoke English too so I was saved the trouble of trying to communicate in a language I haven't studied for about 5 years. it was very weird but the food was yummy so yeah.. then we hit up the Canadian Museum of Civilization which was very cool. They have an extensive collection of Totem Poles and lots of cool masks and things from the "First Peoples" (the Native Tribes of Canada) They also had sweet exhibits of the settling of Canada and it was fun to explore another Country's history in such a way. very cool.

After la musee, we thought about going to a Junior hockey game, but missed it because of the timing, so we went back to Ottawa and ate at the Swiss Chalet (which was quite good, I'd never eaten there before even though there's one or 2 in BUffalo) and as 'Nee and I were both feeling tired, we just decided to go see a movie. LOL
So we saw Eragon and I was rather unimpressed, though I greatly enjoyed the book..

-The cinematography was great, and I liked the special effects, etc. Saphira looked right to me, and the casting was good.
-WHY did they jack up the storylines so much? Roran was leaving to be an apprentice to make money and marry the girl- THAT is vital the 2nd book and they left it out completely!
-They did NOT kill the Ra'zac in the first book, again, VITAL to the 2nd book and again screwed up!
-Arya was annoying in the book, even more so in the movie. GET OVER HER ERAGON!
-Oh and btw, Arya, you're supposed to be unconscious when they find you!
-Angela was TOTALLY wrong! And she had a way bigger part. grrr
-Where was Orik?
-I really liked Murtagh- he was totally hot and I wish there had been more of him!
-oh yeah and in the final battle, Durza was supposed to deliver the disfiguring wound that plays such a part in the 2nd book.. what happened to that?

...anyway It was decent but rather annoying because they deviated way fromt he book in ways that were not necessary at all and that drove me crazy! but eh.. oh and the Star Wars comparisons that I've heard were totally NOT amiss! LOL but whatev. It cost me $3.64 to see the movie and I think it was worth that.. LOL

Moving on.. on Sunday we went to church at this really neat old church with an incredible choir so that was a great way to start the day.. then ate lunch at Tim Horton's and checked out the Parliament building. it was really amazing architecture with all the carvings and artwork and stuff..

then we attempted to skate the canal again but it was much too slushy, it was warmer and sunny and BEAUTIFUL outside but too gross to skate so we ate a beavertail and hit the road.

all in all it was a very fun trip, relaxing and great, and we made it just in time to skate the canal, they closed it up on Monday.

and now..

'Nee all suited up and ready to skate the Rideau Canal..

-the sun on the canal and a huge crack in the ice! yikes!

-yes, the canal had snack bars. we ate a beavertail.. sooooooo goood! but how can you go wrong with fried pastries with maple icing?

-Don CHerry's had the coolest Lights!!
