Probably the Little House series by Laura Ingles Wilder. I remember first reading Little House on the Prarie and then becoming so excited when I realized there was more than just that one book. I'm sure I started reading them because of the television show, and it's probably from the books that I learned how much better reading a story can be than watching it.
