the horizon has been defeated

Reason Number 75 why I love being at Interlochen:
Last night I went to the World Youth Wind Symphony concert, and Frank Ticheli himself conducted "Blue Shades".
AMAZING.

They also did one of his new pieces not yet published, called "Wild Nights", which sounded like so much fun. It was only the second performance of the piece ever, it was just premiered in the spring. He's really fantastic to watch conduct, I'm so glad I had the chance to see him!

And okay, I don't COMPLETELY hate Percy Grainger. WYWS did "Irish Tune" last night, and admittedly, it is one of the most beautiful band pieces out there. I had forgotten how powerful it was, until that moment right in the middle of the piece, the HUGE climax moment that just surrounds your entire body. I remember that feeling when the Wind Symphony at EMU performed it two years ago.

Which reminded me that I won't be playing under Professor Boerma in the fall, which made me really sad. I've shared so many amazing moments with that group under his direction, and while I'm sure the new guy will be terrific, it just won't be the same. Especially Winds Tour, if we even have one! meh.

Anyway, today will be fantastic. My parents are coming to visit, so I have all day with them until tonight when I have to host a DeRoy suite, but my parents were invited to that also, and we're going to the WYSO concert afterwards. weeeeee. And TOMORROW is a WHOLE day off with them, hopefully going to a winery in Leelanau if the weather permits. =D

FIVE MORE DAYS UNTIL RYAN'S HERE. eeeeeeeeeee. Oh, and Billy too. =D I'm so excited.

Sundays are my favorite day on campus<3
