There is a band out there that plays the renfaire / SCA circut, and they are called Wolgemut, a germanic word meaning ' to be in a good mood ' . They play a rather odd mix of instruments like bagpipes, various types of drums, hurdy-gurdies, recorders, and things I can't even identify ( in one song, they play vegetables ). Really, it's best to see them live with a large group of people, but they do release CDs, most of which can be bought in person or off their website/CDBaby.
However, I don't really buy CDs. When I do, I buy them simply to convert to MP3s, because I'm a modern kind of gal. 99% of my music is found online, using Napster ( for those who haven't kept up, Napster is now a legal bit of software, very similar to ITunes. They offer a flat-rate montly fee for unlimited DRM MP3s, which isn't the best thing on earth but survivable ). Today, as I was downloading music for my preschoolers to listen to, I decided to see if Wolgemut was on Napster yet.
And lo and behold, they are! Mind, only their latest CD is there , but it includes their hit song 'PolarBear' ( more commonly known as the polar bear dance, which basically consists of loud and fast music and lots of large men playing human bumper cars. We tend to put up shields in front of the band, because it's not like most of these parties involve a stage ) . Check it.
