from my hair timeline, people usually see this picture:
and ask me how i pomped my hair...
so i just decided to put together this quick tutorial cause i've gotten quite a few requests for one.
the lighting in my pics is all kinds of awful, but hopefully everything is still clear enough that you can try it out too :) here goes!
start out with your plain ol' flat hair! dirty... clean... doesn't matter too much!
all the tools you'll need are a decent teasing comb (orrr any fine-toothed comb) and your favourite hairspray.
my hairspray of choice has always been got2b glued blasting freeze spray, i LOVE it.
(it holds in the biggest windstorms & it doesn't get white &crusty on my dark hair!)
so the first thing you do is separate a chunk of your hair!
how wide do you want your pomp?
from mid-eyebrow to mid-eyebrow is about right, i'd say...
but bigger or smaller, s'up to you!
now that it's separated, grab the back half of this section
(while gently putting down the front half, still keeping it separated).
bleh, the hair was sticking to my lipgloss. haha
oh yeah, so that back section! grab it and TEASE it!
just take your comb and run it towards your roots in short strokes until you create ratted knots at the roots
then SPRAY at the roots
(holy smokes check out that hairspray action shot!!!)
so simple as that-- tease & spray!
now grab the section that you had sitting on yer face.
take MOST of that section, leaving a 1cm section of bangs that will remain unteased.
now with this second section...
TEASE...
& SPRAY!
& umm... spray a lil more? haha
at this point, you've got the beginnings of a fauxhawk goin on.
some would probably say that this much teasing is unnecessary just for a pomp but
i like to make something big ass & "built to last" haha.
seriosuly, it'll last you all day & all night, in a sweaty club or a dirty moshpit.
now grab that section of bangs you left at the front and bring it over your teased hair.
comb that smooth section of hair over the ratty parts and spray as much as necessary.
at this point you're going to comb down the crazy teased part as much as you need to.
the sides will likely be the messiest so just comb out the knots in short strokes!
grab your trusty bobby pins.
i heart those bitches.
and pin your pomp into place!
use 2 & make a little 'X' with them & they'll stay perfectly
now there might be parts that don't stand as perfectly high as others,
so just use yo' afro pik to lift it a bit. haha
now the pomp portion of your hair is done-zo!!!
but i think that a giant mountain on my little head looks funny without
some volume at the sides to balance it out, so i just tease the sides a little bit :)

note: for those asking me how to untangle your hair after...
just wash it as usual in the shower. it'll be super ratty while you shampoo but
once you condition the knots should just kinda fall out! if not, rinse & repeat!
