- Rodney McKay's hair is NOT blond. Ditto Dean Winchester and Lex Luthor, if he had any. (This applies to fan artists, too.)
- Also, the word is "blond". It's only "blonde" if you're referring to a female.
- Oh, and I've complained about this before, but please, please stop describing dudes' eyelashes. If I read the phrase "fanned out over his cheeks" one more time, I may claw off my own face.
- I completely understand the inherent difficulty involved in distinguishing one male or female character from another in slash fic, but the elaborate descriptors (the older man, the younger boy, the pudgy scientist) are LAME. As bexless says, just use their damn name.
- There is nothing at all wrong with a simple "he said". Nothing. It's the sort of invisible phrase the reader's eye simply passes over; you don't need to get fancy, and say "exclaimed" or "shouted" or "enthused".
- If you find yourself writing incest, please, for the love of green apples, refrain from having the characters involved refer to one another as "daddy", "big brother", etc. during the act. Especially repeatedly. *shudder*
- The word "lover" is NEVER necessary. Ever. I am so serious.
Some of My Icon Peeves:
- If you reverse an image of someone famous who has an asymetrical face (aka almost everyone), they will look wrong. Please stop it.
- You don't need text on every. single. icon. Honestly. If you can't think of something to say, it's perfectly fine to just leave it blank.
- Aspect ratio is important. REALLY.
- I'm all for artistic interpretation and color experimentation, but if your icon is so coated with brushes/textures or shadows/lights/blotches of color that I cannot even tell what the subject is? That is a bad icon.
- "Viner Hand" & "Papyrus" fonts should be deleted from the ENTIRE WORLD. *hates*
