So I've recently achieved a position of leadership in my World of Warcraft guild (Yeah, yeah, how geeky can I get) only to watch the guild begin hemhorraging officers, class leaders, and members for various reasons, mostly the fact that people's concerns are not really being addressed. My husband is also an officer in this guild, and he and one other officer were left in charge while the guild leader went on hiatus to get married. And suddenly, with the guild leader gone, people have all these complaints that they want addressed RIGHT NOW, and the officers aren't sure that they have the authority to address these complaints, nor do they want to do so without consulting the guild leader. So, in a desperate attempt to keep the guild from completely dissolving, they try to get people's concerns out in the open, to find out if the problems people have with the way the guild is run can be fixed.
And what happens? Some people air their complaints, some people declare that their complaints aren't ever going to be rectified, but most people decide that the officers who started are "attacking" the guild leader. I'm not totally sure that the guild leader doesn't see it that way, too. He's not really talking. And the whole thing is leaving such a bad taste in my mouth that if I wasn't a class leader, I'd be gone. We did end the weekend on a positive note, but I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. Every time it seems like things are becoming reasonable, we have another downswing.
I really, really, really didn't need this, on top of everything else that's kicking my ass this semester. But then, if disasters happened at the best possible time, they wouldn't be disasters, would they?
