I’m watching the DVDs of the first season of the cult TV show The Wild Wild West starring Robert Conrad and Ross Martin, a show that’s best described as James Bond in the American Old West meets Steampunk. The show ran for four seasons, from 1965 to 1969. There were also two made-for-TV reunion movies: The Wild Wild West Revisited (1979) and More Wild Wild West (1980).
On the back of each DVD case, is a list of the episodes for each disc that gives the episode title, original air date, and episode description. While reading this, I notice that an episode aired on the month and day of my birthday, this episode was:
The Night of Sudden Death -- Original Airdate 10/08/1965
Jim and Artie infiltrate a circus to recover stolen printing plates and unearth a diabolical plot to flood the US economy with counterfeit money.
On a side note: I passionately recommend this to anyone who wants to see a great show from when Hollywood had ideas and good writing. If you saw the big screen version starring Will Smith and Kevin Kline, I urge you to forget the movie and give the TV show a chance. I guarantee you’ll be saying WTF when you how much better and different the original was on all levels--writing, character development, etc.
