Fanfilming?

I've never heard 'bout this before, so I was mightily surprised to hear that there's a Star Wars movie that's made entirely by fans, and suppousedly quite OK, considering it's a Fanfilm.
(Or would that be 'fanmovie'? Is there even a term for this?
I guess this is it; Star Wars Revelations.
Additionally, there's also suppoused to be a fan-made Star Trek series somewhere, although that's somewhat less surprising, seeing as there's official episodes written by fans already (or so I've heard).
But all the same; This is Cool.
If the movie's really good, it's even more so, but I've heard that the special-effects are suppoused to be quite decent. It might be lacking when it comes to the acting, though. But hey; Coooool.
While I'm at it; There's also suppoused to be a fan-made 'trailer' for The Hobbit somewhere. It's, I've heard, made by using clips from the LOTR-movies and Time of the Dragons and merging those together in a pretty impressive way.
