My Summer:

Jul 01, 2006 00:47

My father drives me crazy and I'm getting glasses.

Luckily, I look great in glasses. I used to think I looked like a teacher in glasses (though still good), but in the ones I'm choosing between, I just look great.

I don't mind glasses, in a 'Geez, I'm gonna forget them all the time anyway' kinda' way. I've always had a suspicion I'd end up wearing glasses. I'm cool with that. Except from the fact that they're expensive like hell.

What's annoying is the way my father's been responding to all this... See, here, you need a permission before you start taking your driving-license. And no, taking a license when you're almost 24 isn't unusual, especially not if you've grown up in a larger city, what with public transport and all that jazz. And before you get yer permission, you've got to prove you see well enough.
So I went to an optician, and came back feeling rather worried; I'm aiming to take my license this summer, but it seemed I'd have to get glasses first. But noo, El Padre said they were wrong, I do not need glasses, and should go ahead and send in my application for said permission. I wanted to believe him, because I wanted that permission as soon as possible. But he was, of course, wrong.
I trusted him because he's older, of course, and has more experience. He's also had glasses for a long time, so I assumed he would know.
When I said 'The optician says I'm gonna need glasses' he said 'Noo, they're wrong'. It seemed logical. And it's all right, you know, even parents are allowed to make errors, and their kids trusting them isn't wrong, either.
But when the result came back, it said 'no permission unless we get eye-sight with correction (=glasses)'.
And the first thing he says is "Well, then you weren't making an effort, thinking 'I'll see well enough to make this test'".
Auch. That was painful. I'd been almost shaking when seeing the optician, thinking mostly 'bout the extra cost the glasses was going to bring. But noo, I hadn't made an effort. Suuure. Only the fact that he was on the other end of a telephone line stopped me from slapping him.
Just as if 'You need glasses' = 'You did wrong'. So much bullshit.
And no, I'm sure he didn't mean it like that. But hey, communicado-issues ahoy... *sigh*

I chose not to bring it up when I met him yesterday. These things steals far too much energy as it is, and I didn't want a fight. Nor did he, as far as I could tell. Geez, parents... thought they'd be easier to deal with as you got older? Well, think again.

Speaking of glasses, I had this weird dream of me and a chat-friend, whom I'm also making illustrations for. I dreamed he'd written a mail saying something like 'I'd like to take you out, but then you'd see me as I am, silly-looking what with glasses and all', and I'd written back 'Oh, not to worry, I have glasses too', or something similar. As if I'd care. That was funny. (As far as I know, he doesn't even wear glasses.)

Honestly, I see glasses mostly as an accessories. Probably because I've never had to wear them myself, but still. One can look really hot in glasses, and I intend to. ;D

EDIT: Nohari; What makes Sliven dull.

glasses, parents
