My name is cupid valentino, the modern day cupid and I just wanna say one thing...
Of all the love songs, and of all of the songs about girls, there are always a few that I've associated with certain girls, and will always have some memory related to them. Once we've decide that a song is "our song" or I've related a song to a particularly strong memory, its almost impossible to separate that song from that memory. I wouldn't say it ruins the song, but it would be probably safe to say that you can only have one memory or person associated with that song.
Whats interesting is that listening to these songs can bring up memories that haven't been remembered in years. Like triggers. Memories of relationships that have long since been moved on from, and accepted for what they were.
There are a few songs that I wish I could remove the memory from because I truly enjoy the song and don't want to remember. And then there are other songs which have the opposite effect, that can present an extremely vivid memory that I may never want to forget.
A few examples:
One Slow Dance - Rufio
It Hurts To See You Dance So Well - The Pipettes
Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits
Google the lyrics if you want to play along at home.
I love music, I love discovering music and I love associating memories with music. I love that I can put on The Postal Service, and sit back and remember sharing my earbuds with a girl on a field trip to Mt Koya-san, and breathing in the freshest air in the world, and listening to recycled air and thinking there could be nothing better than this moment, right now. Until that next moment happens, that is.
"[Music] is the glue of the world Mark...it holds it together. Without this...life would be meaningless."
