Went to the Slightly Stoopid concert tonight. Good stuff. There was an opening act, a three piece band from australia called The Beautiful Girls, despite the fact that its three dudes. I have much respect for the three man band, as i know from experience that its very difficult to play guitar and sing at the same time, let alone sound amazing. So if you get a chance, check them out. Fishbone was cool, not quite what I expected, but their music definately stirs the soul. S.S. played here last year, and halfway through their set, they busted out the acoustics and layed down about a six song session. It was incredible. I was hoping tonight that I would get the same deal, but no go. It was cool though, after about half the crowd left, Kyle came back out for an encore and, with the assistance of a beatboxer, played 'couldn't get high', as well a few other songs. I kinda figured that they'd be playing songs off the new album, I mean, come on, ya gotta promote the new shit. But I miss the old shows. The shows at dive bars like Bottom of the Hill in San Fran, or the Capital Hall in Sacramento, where there was a happy hour, a free buffet, and me and my friends were the only people mashing around and singing along to every song. We matched bowls in their white Chevy conversion van. Kyle actually dedicated 'Wiseman' to me back at a show in San Fran. I miss those days, but they're long gone. But then again there are alot of things from those days I'm glad are gone, so the exchange is worth it, i guess. Besides, next time The Beautiful Girls comes to town, you know I'll be in the front row, singing along to every song.
