The concert was pretty much amazing. Meghan, her brother Colin and I got there early enough I planted us right in the middle of the lawn with a good unhindered view. The fact there was a guy in a banana suit next to us was a good sign.
Banana suit guy and his 10-some friends started a mosh pit. It was probably the gentlest mosh pit I've ever seen (They kept spontaneously going into guy-hug mode and then linked arms to do the Can-Can) but that was alright because there were girls in this one and girls always make things more fun~
Before My Chemical Romance was Matt & Kim. I didn't think they fit the sound of Blink 182 and MCR very well, but they did! And the two of them were adorable. At one point Kim picked out four "strong-looking guys" to stand on their hands and dance.
Matt threw out a packet of balloons and told the pit in front of the stage to blow them up and send them back. Only one lone blue balloon made it to the lawn but it was a happy lone blue balloon.
Anyway, they were a good pick to be the openers. Meghan hadn't realized Matt & Kim had done "Daylight".
My Chemical Romance opened with a video of a Japanese woman speaking to the audience. Everyone started cheering even though we couldn't understand her. The opening song was "Na na na".
This concert was a lot tamer for MCR than the last time I saw them. Before Gerard had played up on the "Look at me I'm so gay and BOYS TAKE YOUR SHIRTS OFF" at Family Values. Which was awkward because the place was crawling with 13-year-old kids and their parents.
The highlight of MCR for me was "Helena" and "Welcome to the Black Parade". EVERYONE sang "Welcome to the Black Parade" and it was amazing. The closing song was "Cancer". I might have teared up a bit when Gerard didn't sing the very last word ("And the hardest part of this is leaving ... you"). Well, he did sing it but there was a drawn out silence and it was all very dramatic and I loved it.
Blink 182 came and the lead singer was sick and drunk. This may seem obvious but I would have enjoyed Blink a lot more if I knew their songs ...
Also, I wasn't too impressed with "I wanna fuck a dog in the ass" as lyrical genius. It was fun though.
Remember mosh pit banana guy and his friends? The lawn was already muddy, so I was trying to figure out what they were doing when they were just running back and forth. Later I saw them running down the mud pit they had made, jumping and sliding on their stomachs without shirts.
A mud slide.
Anyway, Blink 182 was fun, but I was there for My Chemical Romance. Apparently Gerard wants to be called "The Dream" now. Hahhah, probably not.
And Blink's drummer does indeed have fabulous abs.
AND through the night Meghan and I were opening packs of glitter on the crowd. It was my goal to cover everyone in glitter (Also known as herpes, IT'S EVERYWHERE). Mission not quite accomplished but we did get at least 20 people in glitter~
