Poor guy, indeed. It was a heart attack, and sudden. I get the sense his father was older, but pretty hearty. Very sadly, he and his father had a lifelong contentious relationship, and I think he feels that he missed some chance to finally make things better before he died. (And fandom has infected me to the point that I couldn't help but think "woobie" the whole time.)

I hope you and the many, many lucky critters have a wonderful Christmas, too.
