I love that Edward Gorey is the subject of today's Google doodle. Every time I needed to search for something today (and it was a very search-y day, between one thing and another), the doubtful guest sitting there by the G made me smile. I think the man should have been Mr. Earbrass, though.
Writing continues. I crossed 45,000 words just a few minutes ago, and I'm on my way to bed. The closer I get to 50,000 words, the more apprehensive I get. That seems to be the wall for me: I get a little past 50,000 words on a novel and everything just dribbles away. This is more a case of soggy middle than anything else, and it's a constant source of frustration for me that I can't ever seem to push through to the other side. I normally participate in a Short Story in a Week challenge in March (new story every week for four weeks), and I can't decide if I should skip it this time around. I love SSIAW, but I'm not sure what will happen if I take a month away from this novel. Especially at this point. Decisions, decisions.
And now I feel an overwhelming desire to go read "The Unstrung Harp." Writerly angst + Edward Gorey. What else is there to do? If I can find it, maybe I'll re-read "The Curious Sofa" while I'm at it.
