grrrr....

I usually try to avoid certain parts of downtown/Chinatown after dark but my volunteering obligations take me there every couple of weeks. Feeling a bit lazy after I got home today I left a bit later then I normally do to pick up some groceries for a lady who lives in the area.

Just as I was about to pull into the parking lot of an Asian super market I noticed that there are a couple of people standing out front blocking the best parking spots. I considered honking but seeing that there were still a few spots on the other side of the lot I decided to walk a few extra steps instead.

So you would think it would end there but just as I was about to pull out a cart in front of the entrance, one of the two people blocking me earlier comes up to ask me for money. I shrugged and apologized but she kept hassling me and at one point threatened doing something to my car. In my head I thought "first you don't let me park and now this?" and kept ignoring her.

It was just my luck too that I had the wrong change for the carts and didn't want to pull out my wallet in front of the panhandler so I ended up having to pull a superfull basket throughout the supermarket and then back to my car. I mentioned it to one security guards on my way out but it looked like they had left by then. I usually feel bad for transient/street people especially when it's so cold out but am really surprised and annoyed at the level of aggression lately.
