I just came home from seeing Hurts live and all I can say is wow.
Their stage presence is stunning, the singer sounds even better live, and there was so much energy and emotion to their performance that it honestly felt like they were looking each individual in the couple thousand or so people in the venue in the eyes and whispering their love to us; it felt that intimate even though it was quite massive. It was beautiful and moving beyond my current level of eloquence (forgive me, I've had a splitting headache for hours and it's not going away, hence my decreased brain function... among other reasons). They played my favourite song (
Illuminated - this was the inspiration behind my modern AU Narnia fic and it's so, so dear to me) and then they played this as their last in their pre-encore set:

This had me crying, guys. Imagine this song played in a huge venue, with the crowds going "STAYYY" all together, everyone's hands in the air, the singer desperately gesturing towards everyone with a look of sheer adoration and humility and gratefulness... I was so moved, I couldn't help myself. In fact even typing this makes me a little teary-eyed. Never before have I felt this connected with this many people, and I'm sure the band must've felt something like this too, but stronger because it's their music everyone is singing back to them.
At some point during the concert, Kylie Minogue came on stage and sang a couple of songs with them.
KYLIE FUCKING MINOGUE.
I was sitting in the upper circle so I couldn't really tell who it was until after she was gone and the singer went "... ladies and gentlemen, Kylie Minogue" and I went WAIT WHAT ARE YOU SERIOUS o______o
These guys weren't even big this time last year, and in such a short time their fanbase has skyrocketed and they can actually invite Kylie and she says yes because they're that awesome. And they really, really are. Check out more of their songs and see for yourselves. Everything they've done is awesome, but here's some stuff to get you started:
Better than Love,
Wonderful Life,
Blood, Tears & Gold.
This was my first solo gig, and goddammit, it was THE BEST I'VE EVER BEEN TO. If they were somewhere in my top 20 before, they've jumped up like 10 numbers overnight. I'd say they're right up there with TAI and Lostprophets and MCR right about now. IDK guys, they're amazing. Give them a listen.
/reels forever and ever
I must buy the deluxe version of their album, it has videos and a live DVD and
the best Christmas song ever on it and (from what I hear) it's only £10. IT MUST BECOME MINE. >:D
