It started with secret, subtle brushing of the hands to eventually holding hands, then to secretly talking on the phone until into the night, and finally to recklessly sneaking out at night to have dates together. Everything was so fresh to Seohyun. The loving gazes, the skinship, the kisses-and in moments like those, she never wants ‘We Got Married’ to stop, just so they have an excuse to act like a couple shamelessly. Even if it means piling schedule on top of schedule-balancing her individual schedule with So Nyuh Shi Dae’s-she’ll fight to remain on the show. She’ll apply more eye-cream at night to cover the dark circles. She’ll hoard instant coffee packs in her purse and work hard, because it had been more than once when her manager came up and goes, “Seohyun ah… is this all too tiresome for you? We can cut back on your schedule, We Got Married has been running for so long already…”

“No, manager oppa,” Seohyun would insist with a persistent smile. “I’m ok. Please, let me continue We Got Married with Yonghwa-sshi.” She reminded herself not to look so persistent or her manager would realize something’s going on, but with the net bursting with Seohyun and Yonghwa’s adorable and awkward chemistry, Seohyun wonders why he hasn’t suspect anything yet. She also made a mental note to delete all the calls and text messages she and Yonghwa had shared, just in case her manager oppa or codi unnie stumbles onto her cell.

Even Tiffany and Hyoyeon had been scolding Seohyun. “Seo Joohyun, I swear, Hyoyeon and I cannot cover you up all the time. When you sneak out it’s been more and more often and you need your sleep. We have a full schedule and-” But Seohyun would always brush it off and insist that she was of age now, and she knew fully well how to take care of herself. But recently, it was getting harder and harder for her to cover those dark circles…

But it was all worth it. He was all worth it. Yonghwa was so sweet and nice to her. The way he holds her tightly in his arms shows how much he cherishes and needs her. The way he jealously suggests that he should buy over SBS, KBS, etc., so Seohyun cannot have other dance stages with other male idols makes Seohyun all giddy and happy. Seohyun had never felt this way before. But everyone could see the changes in her. She was happier, livelier. Her cheeks held a certain tint of pink those only women in love carries. Her smiles are more often and brighter, and there was a spark in her eyes. Everyone could tell that something changed in Seo Joohyun. It was a secret between Seohyun and her eight sisters; but it was that much more obvious to the idol world. But it was ok… no one ever bothered to ask her. They just assumed. It was easier that way-no idol wanted to be involved in a scandal if it broke out.

Actually, Seohyun preferred if no one asks her about her relationship with Yonghwa… but she knows that will never be the case. So when Super Junior’s maknae, Kyuhyun approached her one day after she finished practicing for So Nyuh Shi Dae’s dance stage in the SM Building, she froze.

“Oppa!” She gasped in surprise. “Oh, I didn’t see you there. What are you doing here? Aren’t you busy preparing for Super Junior M’s new comeback-?”

“There are rumors…” Kyuhyun’s face looked pained, but his voice betrayed no emotions. “I don’t know if they are baseless rumors or not. So I need you to confirm it for me.”

Seohyun tilted her head slightly, her heart beating fast. She knew what Kyuhyun was going to ask, but she never thought of a right way to break it to him. “Oppa, I-”

Before she could say another word, she felt a yank on her arm and she was pulled into Kyuhyun’s chest and in another swift motion, his lips were on hers. He was kissing her passionately, yet so tenderly. The way his lips were caressing hers, it was like he was trying to tell her all the feelings he had been hoarding ever since they were trainees.

Seohyun roughly pushed Kyuhyun away. “What are you doing?” She demanded, but the first thing she did was to check to make sure no one saw them. She wanted to raise her voice and scream obscenities at Kyuhyun, but she couldn’t risk anyone knowing. “That-I never gave you permission!” Seohyun reached to touch her lips, still swollen from Kyuhyun’s kiss. Tears started forming and they trailed down her porcelain cheeks.

“I just needed an answer.” Kyuhyun’s voice, again, betrayed no emotions, but Seohyun could see his hands trembling. She didn’t know that Kyuhyun’s body had already started to numb. “But it seems like I already know it.”

Without another word, he turned to leave as Seohyun collapsed to the ground in tears.

And for this, Seohyun feels so sorry for Kyuhyun… But Yonghwa was the one who taught her how to love, but she had always thought it would be Kyuhyun. It was Kyuhyun who was there for her first. He was the one who always bought food for her when she practiced late into the night; the one who massaged her ankle when she nearly twisted it while preparing for debut. After debut, He was the one wiping her tears when she read antis’ hate comments on their forum board. He was the one who was the one comforting Seohyun backstage at the Dream Concert when there was a black ocean for So Nyuh Shi Dae. He was the one who clapped proudly when So Nyuh Shi Dae won the Daesung-the award that Super Junior had wanted so badly.

She was the one who was selfish. The one who wasn’t interested. The one who wanted to pursue her career before risking it for a boy. She was the one who persistently shot down Kyuhyun’s feelings, because their dream was right before their eyes and she wasn’t going to be the one to let both of their dreams fall from their grasps because of hormones.

Now, for Kyuhyun, all those years of waiting… wasted. Who was she to make Kyuhyun feel this way?

Slumped on the ground, crying her heart out, Seohyun cried for Kyuhyun. She was sorry… so sorry… But it had to be Yonghwa. It was Yonghwa who taught her what it means to love. She has finally found someone that she could risk her career for.

And he was sorry too. He was sorry he couldn’t be the one for her. He was sorry he couldn’t be a better person to match her. It had always been a one-sided love, anyone could tell, but he was too stubborn to admit it. Now he had lost her, but Yonghwa was always a better, well-suited candidate. Yonghwa better treat Seohyun well, or these two sorry hearts will never mend.
