Recently caught up with the new expansion for the Star Wars MMO, playing through Knights of the Eternal Throne over the Christmas/New Year week on my Jedi Knight. I'll probably wait until I run through it with my Agent before commenting on the story. However, one thing I must definitely mention right now are the new game mechanics, including mech/giant robot piloting, sneaking around and what I'd describe as a espionage puzzle sequence.
Really loved the walker/mech combat when it appeared in the first chapter. Literally stomping over skytroopers and firing lasers and missiles. And there's an overcharged weapons move that's basically Alpha Strike from Mechwarrior, firing all weapons at once with devastating effect (though obviously the walker doesn't actually shut down from overheating here). And then, on Iokath, we don't get a walker, but an actual giant robot. After the Outlander disables it, the crew figures it's be possible to get it up and running again. When the question of who gets to pilot it comes up, my Knight had this look ... like, was there any question?
As the Outlander climbs into the robot, Lana asks with concern, "Are you sure you want to fight them alone?"
"Are you kidding, I'm a walking tank!"
And Vette quips "Now we know what to get you for Life Day." Indeed, even my Jedi Knight can't resist a toy like this!
The mouse droid sequence was also fun, though not as extensive. Basically, you pilot a mouse droid past skytroopers (avoiding their view cones) to activate various consoles. Having played Metal Gear and Splinter Cell, it was a piece of cake.
Finally, there was the mission to sneak into Vaylin's palace disguised as Zakuul Knights and place charges around the area. To do that, however, Theron and the Outlander had to get into usually off-limit places. What ensued was a little puzzle quest that involved talking to people and figuring out that bringing dinner to the guard barracks would get us into the first of many secured areas. Pretty fun, and just needed one hint to get started proper (ie talk to the guard outside the barracks).
Alpha strike!
That looks really impressive.
Ready to rumble.
Who doesn't love giant walking tanks.
Open fire!

Did anyone order dinner?
