[ it is about time to try and smile on through the difficulties. there is a christmas day to be celebrated and gifts to be opened and given. so buffy puts on her bravest of brave social faces and is out making her christmas gift rounds.

at home, there will be gifts under the beautifully decorated tree for bones, willow, emony and scottyaround

[And Scotty has left a gift for Buffy under the tree as well: it's an ornately-carved German cuckoo clock. Because clearly House 7 needs one of these. At least their craziness will always be on time.

The man himself is enjoying a glass of something in the living room, admiring the tree.]

[ wrapped and tucked beneath the tree is an assortment of mixed nuts, boxed chocolates, and tester-size liquor bottles. basically every cliche what should i get you gift known to man in one gift box. ]

It's pretty amazing, isn't it? I wish I could remember putting it up. [ she walks into the room with a smile. ]

[beaglenapper]

[And the Chief Engineer grins up at her.] Live trees! [He raises his eggnog.] It's been a long time.

[slaying]

Just how long is a long time?

[ she's been told about how he was stranded on the ice planet -- but her nosy tendencies do not end there. ]

[beaglenapper]

Three years of ice. I almost lost track; if it weren't for Keenser and his obsessive calendar-keeping I would have.

[slaying]

Keenser? You weren't there alone?

[beaglenapper]

Aye, Keenser. He's a star mechanic, but a little on the quiet side if you ask me. Whups! Almost forgot to feed little Nell!

[The engineer stands up and begins rummaging in the pocket of his plaid dressing gown. Which, you know, he's wearing over his clothes. He's one of Those Guys.]

[slaying]

...Nell? [ and buffy is officially lost in the question zone. ]

[beaglenapper]

[Out of one pocket pops a ball of fur, with no mouth or eyes or ears or anything. It's a speckled gray colour.] Buffy, meet wee little Nelly! [From his other pocket he pulls a carrot. It...might have been a slightly uncomfortable thing to HAVE in a pocket, but whatever.]

[slaying]

[ oh god cooing alert. ]

She's adorable! Or...or is it a he? Well -- either way? Still adorable.

[beaglenapper]

She's both, actually. [Scotty is pleased. The bundle of fur starts purring.]

[slaying]

...Both? Seriously?

[beaglenapper]

Aye, but this one is apparently neutered, or so said the note attached to her. Which--not a problem, really, considering they breed faster than rabbits. Would you like to coddle this Tribble?

[slaying]

I would love to get my coddle on!

[ and open hands. ]

[beaglenapper]

[So Scott presents her with Nell, who is basically a ball of purring fluffy love. That could eat you out of house and home and suffocate you in a population explosion, but--details.] There's my little Nellie! Awww lookit, she likes you.

[You're a lonely man, Scotty. A lonely man.]

[ she scratches the top of nell's...self. ]
