I watch Eric--this one has to be Eric--taking over the meeting as if I'm not there. Oh, he might have worded it like he was introducing the main act, but he's obviously an attention whore just like every other would-be star I've ever met.
On the other hand, he's gotten everyone quieted down and I'm not about to look a gift-horse in the mouth. I can use someone like that, and probably without him ever realizing it.
"First things first," I say, stepping out of the crowd. "I've decided that the play will be a group decision, so let's have some suggestions, and then we can vote on them. Then we'll need to discuss committees--costumes, crew and so forth."
"I have thought for some years now that what this school needs is some *quality* some *dignity* to it's performances. I would therefore suggest the most respected. I am talking, of course, about the Bard Himself. What ths school needs is *Shakespeare." I say, before taking a seat follwoing a job well done. pPerfect delivery, as always.
"Shakespeare? Well, I do love the classics, but Shakespeare can be rather demanding for actors without much experience. Many students find the language difficult to speak naturally, but I'm certainly open to it if the rest of the group is willing to give it a try."
I look with surprise at the youngest male of the group getting all defensive about Shakespeare. You don't see that every day...usually boys want to go for something comedic. "Oh no, I'm not saying that at all. Just that it might take extra work to get the archaich English down properly. But I am willing to work with each and every one of you to make this a superb production!"
"Does anyone have a suggestion for a specific play? One of the comedies, perhaps?" I smile at Jordy, thinking he'd make a perfect Puck. "A Midsummer Night's Dream is always a winner."
I raise my hand for Romeo and Juliet - hey, maybe the cute redheead will get cast as Juliet to my Romeo...
I glance over at the kid, surprised that he's been arguing so vehemently for Shakespeare - wouldn't have put him down as an follower of the Bard, but it takes all sorts, I guess.

"If there's no other suggestions, shall we put it to a vote?"
Oh lord, I really hope a few of these kids can act.
