My teeth are where they are

When I was in fifth grade I was taken to an orthodontist which I was quite excited about because I was looking forward to getting braces.  I didn't get braces at that time because there was another option that cost much less and would work well enough for the way my teeth were.  This thing was like retainer, but with screws that allowed adjustment to spread and move things.  After a year or so I stopped wearing it and we stopped going to the orthodontist.  He said that I had about a 20% improvement.

Then when I was 19 I went and got braces.  There was concern because I didn't cooperate with my previous treatment by wearing the thing enough and the braces would not be effective if I failed to keep the rubber bands in place.  This was not a problem at all.  I had wanted braces, I had braces and that was great.  Then I got my braces off and had the clear plastic invisible retainer.  I wore them quite diligently at first, then I misplaced the things for a day or two.  I put them back in and had a little of the soreness that came from an adjustment of braces.  I wore the retainer with greater resolve for a while but this became a pattern.  At one point I had misplaced them for a few weeks and when I went back to them I couldn't get them in.  My teeth have floated where they want since that time.

So my bottom front teeth are still much better than they were when I was in school, but not nearly as good as they were when I left college.  I was looking at my teeth in the mirror earlier as I brushed and thought about getting braces again one day.  I think this time I will keep the things on until my teeth are set in place.

I remember being about five years old and running around with a kid whose mom had braces and she was so nice and pretty and I have liked people with braces ever since.  I tend not to mention my enjoyment of braces because I think people would think I have a thing for young girls.  I do prefer girls who have braces, but I also like guys better who have braces.  If I were getting estimates for a roofing job and got three good offers, if one of the estimators had braces I wouldn't have to think twice about who I would pick.  Braces to me are like mouth jewelery, and people who have them I perceive as nicer and more friendly than people who don't.  I have since I was five.

It's sort of the opposite of Camaro owners.  The first several Camaro owners I met all had the same bad attitude  for some reason, so I got to the point  where I a person with Camaro started out in the hole with me even though they might be a nice person.
