DH spoilers bunnied me

I'm eagerly awaiting my very own copy and a Saturday of reading. Followed by two weeks of reading internet howls of glee and/or despair. And then ... then things will actually get interesting as despite JKR's efforts to tie up, pin down, and rivet every plot point and relationship into exactly one and only one shape, fans will find a way to put adult significance and sex into just about all of it.

In the final chapter, it seems that Harry mentions that a certain powerful small artifact has been left out in the Forest. Now of course, the Forest is huge, the leaf litter heavy, and the artifact small ... but doesn't it seem inevitable that an adventurous young student will someday, somehow find it? Ahd in the sappy happy ever after epilogue, a certain youngster is apparently told that he can be a Griffyndor if he doesn't want ... that other House.

Now of course, all ends are tied up, right? But that little artifact could just possibly put the future young student who finds it in touch with a past master from Slytherin. Especially if that young student's named after him. And with initials (always very important to JKR) that happen to be ASP? How Slytherin-sounding! I'll take that as a portent. I'm seeing a mentoring of a small lad, overshadowed just a bit by a brother who seems uncannily like James Potter, and redemption for the older Slytherin involved.

JKR may have worked for "good old-fashioned closure," as the NYT book reviewer called it Wednesday, but that's no match for fandom. Fan fic writers can find enough open territory to drive 10 fic fests through.
