I just. Ugh. I don't get it, and maybe that makes me naive, or ignorant, or power hungry, but I just, I DO NOT GET IT. Why in the world is ignorance so acceptable in this country? Who in the world, way back when education was being decided, agreed that laziness and being "passable" should be the standard we should shoot for? Who the FUCK believes ( Read more... )

I agree with that, but my best friend is telling me I'm being a snob and that fanfiction is just 'fun'. Since when did fun become a word associated with no substance? O.o

And by no substance, I mean no commitment, no responsibility, no pride in one's work, whether it be professional or not. Why can't writing well-written work be just as fun as reading it?

(Well, therein lies that American teaching I'm talking about, I guess. Ugh. >.<)

I think a well-written PWP is beautiful, but if it's just one page of "fuck me Willa" "yes Bammie" *he put his cock in his ass and thrusted* --repeat-- and sometimes, with no spaces, no proper punctuation, and FUCK is spelled wrong? Yeah, it needs to get checked at the door, I believe.

Yeah, and therein lies another problem. Who the hell says young writers don't need to adhere to a standard of just...coherency? Competence? Legibility? At LEAST -- if not things like creativity, originality, and flow.

We don't want to become the next "fanfiction.net", known more for its eleven year olds trying their hands at 'pr0n' than competent, enjoyable stories by people who have just as much talent as published authors, only choose not to engage in literary politics.

I for one think some of the best Vam is on par with a lot of good literature. Why not increase that number? :)

Yeah, I mean, I could stand the occasional badfic, but when there's literally days sometimes of nothing BUT, something must be done.

I dunno. I'm gonna try but, I'm trying to avoid a war here. If I have to be a revolutionary, I will, but hell, even Washington didn't stand by himself. :P
