Because this is literally tearing me the fuck apart. Warning: RANT INVOLVED.

I just. Ugh. I don't get it, and maybe that makes me naive, or ignorant, or power hungry, but I just, I DO NOT GET IT. Why in the world is ignorance so acceptable in this country? Who in the world, way back when education was being decided, agreed that laziness and being "passable" should be the standard we should shoot for? Who the FUCK believes that that accomplishes ANYTHING?

Okay, so, take my current predicament. I'm living as the equivalent of the President/Queen of __Vam (also known as the "main mod"), torn between offending as few people in the future as possible or improving the community as a whole. And what the fuck am I expected to choose, as an American? I am expected to choose the path of least resistance, because I must be a SNOB, or an ELITIST, or even, more crudely, a BITCH, to believe everybody should be held to a standard of checking each other and improving each other with 'you're wrong' rather than eternal cases of petting each other's egos.

Would a beta network be so bad? Would it? Would it be so freaking terrible that fanfiction/posting be held to standards a little higher than that of the 'joke(s)' such communities are considered to be? Would it be such a goddamn tragedy if one or two writers who knew they weren't ready to stand up to being told they needed improvement avoided said communities? Is pleasing people really the ultimate goal in EVERYTHING? Is it not the point of posting for each other that we get checked by our fellow writers/readers/posters in general, and improve as a result? Is that not a HUGE part of why public forums were invented? To share ideas and thus stop ones based upon ignorance from spreading and creating chaos? If we can augment this, on however small a scale, don't we have the duty and the right to do so?

I guess what I'm trying to say is, maybe I'm no evolutionary revolutionary, but I believe that laziness and 'passing' is not good enough. In anything. And I've been finding a fair amount of people agree with me, in the community or otherwise. Must I really concede to the WRONG American teachings so many of us have been ingrained with, happy to be known as oblivious idiots rather than be told we need to change, when I have the power, for ONCE, to alter things for the better (of most, if not all)? Isn't the point of putting somebody in a position of influence to have them change things for the greater good? ISN'T IT?

Please, feel free to correct me. I just had to rant about this. And as to those who have already argued about this with me, it was not meant to offend, whatsoever, or to yell at you for your opinions. I just want to know if I'm the only person who really feels this way.

Much love,

A very perturbed Andrea/Slasher.

EDIT: I appreciate all the feedback on this post, and it was comforting at the time to know that so many people feel the way I do, but Vam was only ten percent or less of this rant, and I am no longer inflamed enough to look at this with such bias, so with respect, sweethearts, I probably won't be answering these comments, though I read and appreciated them all. :)

power, laziness, vam, people pleasing, change, community, american idiots
