The Pope must go? The Pope serves for life, period!

Radical Muslim clerics and scholars in Pakistan have demanded the removal of Pope Benedict XVI for what they called "insulting remarks" against Islam.
It strikes me that never once has the Vatican called for the removal of any Muslim cleric, maybe it should start? However, it is a measure of the ( Read more... )

I so agree with you re "respect" and how to get it.

Painful as it may be, I wonder if it is simply growing pains for religions? Witness the Inquisition, the Crusades, Queen Mary of Scotland, KIng Charleses, 1 & 2, and Oliver Cromwell. Although I cannot name specific wars, I do believe there are many tales of them in the Hindu religion -- at least between the gods.

What strikes me is that these wars are really not for holy reasons at all. Simply put: POWER and CONTROL of others appears to be the prime goal.

Dear Muslim extremists: Remove the Pope only if you really want the other side of your religious war to join in the fight in earnest. You've never seen a pissed-off Catholic until you've seen one whose Pope's been dissed.

This is why I don't practice organized religion. Any religion that puts another person in any sort of "control" over your relationship with your choice of diety dilutes that relationship.

Spirituality over religion, any day of the week for me.

I have no argument with you there but, that isn't the point. The issue is the very real political one that those assholes think that they even have a hint of a say in the selection of the Pope. That takes unmitigated gall, whether you believe in the concept or not. Calling for the removal of the Pope, Muslim style, means killing him in some sort of terrorist attack. Even trying that will put every Muslim in US and the EU on the prey list.

Then again, meybe that's what should happen. I might make those "moderate" muslims wake up to the real danger that their radical 'brothers' are placing them in.

I'm sorry about the previous comment. 4am rant.

I wholly agree with you. My (limited) knowledge of human history always seems to come down as a power struggle between two or more radical factions trying to use emotion to wield power, usually in the name of G-d.
