Radical Muslim clerics and scholars in Pakistan have demanded the removal of Pope Benedict XVI for what they called "insulting remarks" against Islam.
It strikes me that never once has the Vatican called for the removal of any Muslim cleric, maybe it should start? However, it is a measure of the respect that the Vatican holds for Islam that it has not denounced Islam as nothing but blasphemers and heretics, which by historical and religious texts, it could easily do.
No, 'The Church' has been quite tolerant of Islam over the past few centuries.
The Pope has already apologized twice for his inadvertent remarks. Remarks which were taken completely out of context to begin with. Any more apologies would be tantamount to groveling. There is not a single Catholic, and quite a few non-Catholics, that would tolerate that. The Pope is not subject to Islamic rule, period! Those Islamic clerics are stepping way beyond any tolerable incursion into other's affairs.
I submit that if Islam wants respect then it's about damned time they start showing some respect.
In the meanwhile, the West should start demanding the removal of militant Islamic clerics, starting with those shit-heads in Pakistan that want to remove the Pope.
