Everything about this situation was wrong. Dean being a vampire was wrong, Dean showing up now was wrong... The fact that the entire world was going to Hell in an expedited handbasket was poorly timed enough on its own. She didn't need her past popping up in the form of something bloodthirsty on top of protecting a little sister, her friends, the world, and an increasingly populated gaggle of teenage girls. With Bringers running around killing teenagers, the Apocalypse being pretty damn nigh... The last thing the Slayer needed was Dean Winchester showing up at her door with fangsShe trudged back home, exhausted, and headed directly up the stairs to her bedroom. She poked her head in, then stepped, a paper bag containing a few IV-sacks of donated blood. "Dean?" Buffy knew that... something was different about the vampire he'd become, than the ones she was used to, so she spoke quieter. She wasn't sure what senses would bother him. She closed, and locked, the door behind her, and walked further into the room. Finding him in the corner, ( ... )

Because Buffy's help had been so helpful thus far. Being around all the girls was one thing, being around Buffy was entirely different. The only way he could explain the differences in both vampires was different breeds. It went the same with werewolves. Dean would get into the technical side of it (and had once when it came to explaining everything to Giles when he was in high school). Dean didn't usually remember everyone from the schools he'd been in. But Sunnydale had only promised him people his own age who knew what he was going through. Not exactly right now. Kindred spirits didn't lock each other away because letting them at the people on the lower levels might have meant that Dean would have had an all you can eat buffet ( ... )

Buffy was doing the best that she could. She brought him blood to keep his hunger down, tried to keep him as comfortable as possible, but she had so much happening already... Her job wasn't even a tiny tip of the iceberg that life had turned into. She wanted to help him - but to her, killing him? Was not an option. It wouldn't ever be. Dean had been her friend for a number of years now. The thought of actually killing him hadn't even half crossed her mind. Not even when it was what he wanted. She didn't kill Angel. She didn't kill Spike. She wasn't going to kill Dean ( ... )

Blood seriously felt like the least of his worries, especially since Buffy seemed to be intent on keeping him full. It wasn't cherry pie by any means and still the thought of having to drink it made him sick to his stomach. But his body knew what it needed. It didn't really care at that point what mental quibbles Dean would have with it. After killing...After allowing himself to become what he did and the events to that great toppling fall, Dean was more of a victim of instinct. Before getting to Sunnydale he'd killed. Not just his first two victims but others. He hadn't done something idiotic like turning them but he'd killed. Leaving the bodies in truck stops and on the side of the road. When it seemed to become clear that the "serial killer" was going to Sunnydale the authorities seemed to get the jist that it was more of their problem than anyone else's.

He just hadn't gotten to do anything when he was there.

A part of him wished the thought had crossed her mind. It was really only a matter of time. They were smart ( ... )

"You mean once you stop hearing nothing but really painful sounds and heartbeats? No, Dean," she frowned. "I can't risk you. Especially not like this. It'll be awhile, if ever." Buffy wasn't going to be lenient here. It wasn't that she didn't trust him. It wasn't that she didn't want his help. She just knew it would be better for everyone involved - especially him - to avoid him diving in headfirst. He'd have to help from the sidelines, if he did at all.

She pinched the bridge of her nose. "But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Right now, we just need to get you in a manageable state. And... see if there's anything more we can do. Something to make it better, something to try keeping your cravings down."

If that didn't earn Buffy a growl of frustation than nothing would. There was nothing Dean hated more than being benched. Sure, he would have done the same when it came to someone asking the same thing of him. He had for the most part when it came to his little brother. "I mean, once I'm managable." Dean wasn't willing to just jump into it. But he honestly wasn't going to sit around the house the entire time. Dean rose to his feet, the vampire seeming like he was sizing the slayer up. And in some essence, he was when it came to the idea that he knew he really couldn't take Buffy. He may have been a vampire. But Buffy knew what she was capable of.

Dean didn't. Not entirely.

"It will happen, Buffy." He pointed out, not hiding his frustration. He just moved a little closer to her and glared her down. Even if it wasn't that intimidating he thought. "I'm fine, Buffy. I haven't tried ripping your throat out right?" He was proud of himself because of that too.

"You know that the only person in the world more stubborn than you is me, right? Like I said - we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. For now? The answer is no, and is going to stay no until I change my mind. The end." Shorter than him or not, she had a commanding presence and she planned to use that to the fullest. Buffy wasn't about to let him bully her or boss her around. This situation, this town? Was hers. The problems here were hers, the Apocalypse was hers to deal with, and Dean Winchester wasn't about to muscle in and try to take over. Especially not now that he was among the ranks of the undead ( ... )

"Yeah, I do. There was a reason why I couldn't stick in Sunnydale the first place." Not to mention that his dad was yanking him all across the United States by that point. When he'd first met the Scoobies, he was going under the gise that he and Sammy were military brats. It seemed to work for the most part. Even better to get chicks in his pants but that was beside the point. The point was being in Sunnydale, even for a short amount of time helped him relate to people because he related to Buffy and her friends. "Fine...doesn't matter. I'll...sharpen my fangs until then. I think I can use the nail file I lifted from one of the girls." He smirked over in her direction not exactly moving from his place. Dean wasn't exactly too keen on...taking orders. Probably just the same as the slayer was ( ... )

Buffy wrinkled her nose, clearly displeased. "Ouch. My delicate ego," she fired off, rolling her eyes. She wouldn't ever show it, but that did sting a little. They'd been friends when he was here. She'd been... attracted to him, much as she hadn't really shown in because everything in her life at that point had been Angel, Angel, Angel, and hearing something like that? Joke or not, there was a little bite to it. It might even come back and but her later ( ... )

Dean didn't understand the...profound impact that Angel seemed to have on the slayer when he'd originally met her. When the both of them had first come across each other, Buffy was pretty much the IT girl that he was sure if he wasn't a dumb kid. He could have seen them actually having a relationship that worked because they were so alike. They understood everything more when it came to the both of them because they both were chosen. Just in different ways but the same when it came down to it. Dean was destined to save people, just as Buffy was. It was his one purpose in life, even if Buffy didn't accept that as much as he had. He tried not to smile at the very least, cocking his head to the side as he looked up at the woman.

"Delicate ego? I didn't know you had delicate anything, Buff." He laughed, winking in her direction. He didn't even want to acknowledge the fact that there could have been anything when it came to Buffy. They were always in each others lives at the wrong times. When it came to originally meeting, it ( ... )

"Hey, I can be delicate," she said, giving him an almost playful pout. Even when things were looking bleak and hopeless, she still had her sense of humor. It rarely, if ever, waned. Even when staring death in the face, she still held onto it. Her wit was a big part of how, and why, she got her reputation. Buffy noted the wink. Sometimes it was hard for her to separate herself from that part of her that had always found Dean incredibly attractive.

The timing was just off. Always.

"I'll get you some books to hit, I guess," she said, heaving a sigh. Buffy pinched the bridge of her nose. "Look, I know you don't want to feel useless. I don't want you to, either. But this is some seriously heavy stuff - big time stuff. Like, Evil only exists because this thing exists. It's the biggest of the big bads, Dean. I want you to help, but I don't want you to get in the line of fire. You're already in a bad enough situation the way things are nowHe got her. He always got her. Just like he was getting her again now. He understood, better than ( ... )
