Ahh Sometimes I Dream You in Reds and Blues

A quick rundown

I have a sunburn, windburn, frost nip, first degree sunblindness, two strained muscles in my back, I retweaked my ankle, and I'm working with two scientists that are incrediby unorganized and spend more time fighting about what we are doing than actually doing anything. I'm also having a fucking blast every second of it all.

First degree sunblindness as diagnosed by the guy down the hall, is basically a sunburn on the eyes from reflected light off of the ice. They burn and sting and exhaust their tear supplies pretty readily, but all in all it is not that bad. Two days ago I climbed Observation Hill and took pictures of the entire skyline to get you guys an idea of what it looks like here. I almost fell off of the damn thing and to my death because the rock structure is virtually unmoved in the past 50 years and is still pretty fragile and loose. There is a wooden cross at the top in remembrance of Captain Scott and his crew that tried to get to the South Pole first. They arrived there just days after the Norwegian team led by Admundsen (spelling is off). Admundsen later said he would not have made it to the pole without Scott's first failed trips to guide him. Scott and team died on the way back, the most famous being Oates who felt he was holding the team back and left the tent saying, "I am just going outside, it may be some time." He was never seen again. When they found Scott's body it was frozen, they built a small ice pyramid to mark the spot. When the winter ended the team went out again to place a more proper memorial, but the ice pyramid was gone. Antarctica quickly erases most traces of human tampering in its harsher places. So ends the tale, for now, of Robert Falcon Scott. We'll raise a glass to him when I get back, rest assured.

Later that night we enjoyed the non-smoking bar, Gallagher's. I drank with the rugby players (these fuckers are hardcore, the play in the fucking snow and ice) and sang rugby songs and got good and damn drunk for two dollars per crown and seven. Where else in the world can you get a crown and seven for two dollars at a bar?

Quote of the night:
"I don't remember the words to the song, I just start humming it." - Brian
"There are no words to the song, we are all just humming it." - Keith
"No shit?" - Mark A
"Ahh I've been fucking making up words too, I just thought you guys were mumbling" - Mark B

Ahh soon. . .when I figure out how to add pictures to this fucking blog. . .I'll put a picture of the Antarctic skyline. . .to be enjoyed by all, no doubt. And as soon as I actually have the pictures on this computer. . .since I just found the insert image button. Until next time. . .I am just going outside, it may be some time.
