The day seemed like a normal one in Japan. Even though it was still winter, the sun was out shining in the sky and light clouds were in the sky.
But to the comedian of Hey! Say! JUMP, the world suddenly seemed cold and cruel to him. Why did the day have to be so bright? Yaotome Hikaru seriously began to think that Kami-sama was mocking him and his broken heart.
He was rushing down the street as his plams became sweaty and tears welled up behind his eyes. Hikaru's mind was in a frenzy as his broken heart fell into a deep recession. Turning at a familiar cross street, he wasn't exactly sure what he was doing, but he did know that he really needed to see a certain someone.
Suddenly, his phone began to ring, but the uniquely altered Dreams Come True ringtone only encouraged the tears to fall in streaks down his cheeks.
With a blurred vision, Hikaru lost track of clear sight until he was at the doorstep, leaning on the door for support. He pressed the doorbell with shaking hands, hearing the familiar sound give him a small sense of tranquility. But it was the person who opened the door that held the key to Hikaru's calm state of mind.
"Oh, Hikaru, it's y--Hikaru?" Yabu Kota frantically asked as he took in the tears on Hikaru's face. "What's wrong?"
The moment Hikaru set his eyes on his best friend, he couldn't help himself as he stumbled into the foyer and threw his arms around him. Somehow the feel of Yabu's presence around him made his tears fall even faster.
At first, Kota was overcome with worry and the great need to figure out who made the younger boy cry, but managed to hug Hikaru back and half carry him to the his room. Once settled on his bed, Kota simply let the younger boy cry on his shoulder. After knowing Hikaru for so long, he knew better to let him cry it all out before trying to get a sensible word from him.
It was at that moment Kota got the answer he had been wanting. Hikaru's phone began to ring again, but he made no move to answer, let alone let go of Kota. With a sigh, the older boy took the phone out of Hikaru's pocket to turn it off, but not before seeing the Caller ID.
The name Kei<3 flashed brightly on the phone's screen.

Not long after and a very wet shoulder later, Hikaru was finally able to speak. Kota put a reassuring hand on his shoulder and asked with concern eyes, "Hachibee, what happened?" He used Hikaru's childish nickname in hopes of using nostalgia to ease the pain he was in.
Deep breath. Don't let the voice creak. Let it go weak, but never waver and crack like the heart. However, Hikaru started out in a broken whisper as he stated, "I.. I, uh--" Another deep breath, "..I saw Kei with Dai-chan. They looked like they were on a date, holding hands."
Despite the great hurt etched in Hikaru's words, Kota unwillingly felt captivated by the vulnerable expression on his face. Usually, the younger boy was always in a happy mood, that it was rare seeing this side of him.
And now that Kota was able to, he couldn't help, but feel immensely attracted to his best friend. The red, puffy eyes made Hikaru look more innocent than usual and the flushed face created a cute blush across his cheeks.
"Kota? Are you listening?" Hikaru's voice brought him out of his daze.
"Huh? Oh, y-yeah, of course I am." Kota replied, managing to recover, but not able to keep his eyes off of his best friend. "So, um, what are you planning to do?"
Hikaru sighed, a simple sad expression and yet made Kota want to caress his face. "Well, I don't know. I mean, I am angry, but that doesn't mean I should go out and tear up all of the things he gave me."
"Yeah, yeah, such actions.. aren't good at all." Kota blinked twice, hoping to shake himself out of it, but to no avail. The more Hikaru talked, increased Kota's urge to shut him up and use his own mouth by doing so.
"..But I really can't change the fact that it hurts so much right now. I really do love him, but now that I've seen him with another guy, I don't know what to think anymore. Then again, I had always thought that we'd be together for a long time, but I guess--"
Without thinking beyond his actions, Kota couldn't take it anymore and didn't hold himself back as he unceremoniously brought his lips to meet Hikaru's soft ones. The kiss was soft, but a little rushed, as if Kota was afraid to lose his best friend if he didn't show him exactly how he felt.
He should have known that Hikaru would be the first to pull away. Hikaru's lips were red from the kiss and a deepened blush graced his cheeks, but his eyes were intense as he looked at the older boy. It took him a few moments to say something.
"K-Kota? What was that?" Hikaru stood up and took a step away, unaware how to respond to the kiss. But he couldn't deny the fact that he felt something inside.
Now, after looking at Hikaru's face and realizing what he had done, Kota turned away, regretting his actions. "Hachibee, I'm sorry. I just, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that. I mean, the kiss did have a meaning to me, but I should have taken in your feelings, too," Kota quickly explained as he felt his cheeks flush from embarrassment.
Silence quickly spread between them, both not knowing how to recover from the sudden turn of events and avoiding the other's eyes.
It was Hikaru, who felt the need to speak first by asking, "How long?"
The two had known each other long enough to say less and understand what wasn't said. "I'm not sure. Maybe since the first time you came on Ya-ya-yah? I thought you had a crush on me, too, but then I saw how you were around Inoo--I mean, him."
"Well, yeah, that's only because you were always hanging with Shoon."
"Wait, what?" Suddenly, Kota was confused, because he had thought his love for his best friend was one-sided. But was Hikaru trying to say that he felt the same way? A small grain of hope grew in his heart. "What do you mean by that?"
It was Hikaru's turn to be embarrassed as he took a seat next to Kota. "It's just that I was jealous of you and Shoon hanging out, so I found a friend in Inoo and hoped to get over you. To be honest, I kind of did.. ok, I still have some feelings for you. But I never really wanted to get over you in the first place."
Silence fell between them again as they realized how much time they had lost between them when they should have just confessed in the first place.
A laugh from Kota broke the silence. "Wow. I feel pretty dumb now. I always thought that I would tell you, but with the debut and--"
"Kota?" Hikaru interrupted, seeing Kota become embarrassed again.
The older boy looked up and noticed the short distance between them. He could see the slight curve in Hikaru's eyelashes and his out of place hair from crying as his heart sped. Hikaru had never looked more gorgeus. "Y-yeah?"
"You're cute when you rant." Hikaru stated and gently cupped his face to pull him into a sweet kiss.
It was on this day Hikaru realized that with every broken heart can heal with a little help of nostalgic feelings.
