Day 021. An overrated movie: Alice in Wonderland
There is a lot of love for this movie, and honestly, I don't really understand why. I mean, I really adore some of the songs, and there's no doubt that Wonderland is best suited to a medium like animation, but the movie itself is really episodic. It doesn't really have a cohesive story, and a lot of the original satire which held the book together is lost. Not only that, Alice is pretty bland as a heroine. Stuff happens to her; she reacts to what's going on around her a lot less than a character like Snow White. I realise this is pretty close to the original text, but seriously? Even Walt Disney thought Alice didn't have much to recommend herself to audiences. I can see why it's a cult classic, but overall the movie is pretty ho-hum. On the other hand, it was a fantastic world in Kingdom Hearts, and I adore Kathryn Beaumont's ever charming voice acting as Alice.
Day 022. An underrated movie: Brother Bear
To be honest, I was kinda sceptical of this film at first. I hadn't really heard much about it, and no-one seemed that enthusiastic about it. In my first year at uni, I spent the night over at my cousin's house since her parents were going to be out late (she was 14 at the time). We spent most of the night geeking out over Pixar and Disney films. We watched Cars, which I hadn't seen, and also Brother Bear. Honestly, this film is worth watching for the art alone. The backgrounds are stunning, and once we switch to "bear vision", the colours become much more vivid and the lighting more vibrant. AND THE LIGHTING <333 The story itself is pretty standard, but it's strength is in the relationship that develops between Kenai and Koda. Some critics have said it's too similar to The Lion King, but I think it's different enough that it isn't jarring. In my opinion, it's as different to The Lion King as the princess films are to one another, maybe more so. Rutt and Tuke will probably grate with older viewers, but I still think it's worth taking the time to watch. I was pleasantly surprised.
Day 023. A movie that makes you laugh: The Emperor's New Groove
OH MY GOD. This is the movie I always watch when I'm suffering from exam stress. It is completely ridiculous and doesn't really take itself seriously at all, but it's still grounded so it doesn't get too crazy. The voice choices are all pretty spot on, and the timing for the gags with Kronk and Yzma is perfect. It's one of the only Disney movies from the last decade that I can more or less recite while watching it. I JUST LOVE IT OKAY. I always feel so much better after watching it.
Day 024. A movie that makes you cry: The Lion King.
Actually, I'm pretty sure I have cried at literally every Disney movie I own. If I'm in the right mood, I'll cry at anything. BUT DAMN, if this movie doesn't have the most triggers.
Day 025. Your favourite scene from your favourite movie: Bedtime
I adore this scene. The
music is perfect. I know the picture only has the first part of the scene but I do mean the entire thing until Sebastian curls down to sleep on the pillow. POETRY.
Day 026. Saddest death: Mufasa
Again, I've cried at every death. And Ray should probably get a special mention. But this was that one death from that one movie that stuck when I was a kid. I'm sure most people my age would sympathise.
Day 027. Scariest death: Clayton
WOW. I only saw this movie for the first time a few years ago, and DAMN, DISNEY. THAT'S PRETTY GRIM. Facilier getting dragged into Hell in a N'Orlans graveyard is a close second.
Only three more! :O Also, ONE MORE WEEK 'TIL CHRISTMAS! 8D 8D 8D
