Fanmix: Love Megamix
Title: Love
Subject: Relationships from the RP
Warnings: Um, this is completely massive.
Details: A few months ago I came up with the idea of making a megamix based on the RP around a certain theme. Almost immediately I settled on the theme of relationships, because it is exactly what the RP is about. But because we have such a variety of different relationship dynamics present, I needed a way to organise it all.
In Ancient Greek, they have four different words to describe the different kinds of love that are specific to different relationships.
Philia (φιλια) is the platonic love and affection between friends.
Storge (στοργη) is the natural and unconditional love between family.
Eros (ερως) is the passionate and comsuming love between lovers.
Agape (αγαπη) is the selfless and devotional love between married couples.
Naturally, I thought this was perfect for a series built around the ancient Greek world and beliefs. I brainstormed a list of prominent relationships on the RP, and started collecting songs with erethesunrises. Once we had a variety of songs, we cut it down to one or two songs per pairing. I decided our deadline would be Christmas Eve, New Zealand time, to keep this from dragging on for months.
In choosing songs, we looked first for songs that spoke about the relationships. This was relatively easy for romantic couples, but became more and more difficult as we ran out of songs about friendship. So for many of the couples, we matched the tone of their relationship to songs, or chose songs that the characters would both like and rock out to.
To be completely honest, I could not have done this without the help of the fabulous erethesunrises. I have a habit of starting epic projects, loosing steam halfway through, and leaving them to collect dust. I find that working with someone else and comitting to finishing a project with them makes me much more likely to actually finish. Not only that, I simply could not have collected as many songs without her help. To her credit, she was extremely willing to help and has been fantastic at giving feedback, suggesting dozens of songs I'd never even heard of, and being an all-round fantastic person to work with. She deserves as much credit as I do for this mix.
Obviously, I haven't included every relationship on this mix. To maintain my sanity, I decided to stick to prominent relationships for characters approved before the 25th of November, which is when I made the initial list (yes, I have been working on the mix for a month). I hated to do so, but I felt it was kind of necessary to keep to the deadline. To remedy this, I included a song for all the female characters and a song for all the male characters to use as their anthems.
