An Interesting Experience

So yesterday for Christmas day I went out caroling with a Russian Gospel Church. I am not religious in any way shape or form but I do believe that Christmas should not be spent alone. Luckily my friend Nadia from work felt this way as well (at least about the being alone part) and she invited me along to carol with her church. At first I felt very awkward because after all I was the new kid and no one knew me except her. This feeling of awkwardness changed to loneliness because even though I was surrounded by people they were all speaking a language I could not understand. This is what happens when you grow up in a predominately white small town. However this feeling was changed to mindfulness and I started to appreciate the situation I was in. After all I can now cross Christmas caroling with Russians off of my bucket list. Now a decent handful of these people did speak English and I ended up making quite a few friends that night but there were still those who didnt understand me when I spoke and this was the first time I had ever really been in a situation like this. This is a sign that I need to travel more and open my eyes.
The night consisted of me humming along to their Slavic tunes and really belting it out when Joy to the world and We wish you a Merry Christmas were sang.
I am happy to say that I did not spend Christmas alone this year.

Life is about experiences and you can never have too many. Just like friends, never take them for granted.
