Several thoughts about 'Inside Out:'
Thinking of memory banks, I'm now considering my age in terms of how many ten-year Laramies I've accumulated. Not so many really: 10.1 was huge: learning to walk, talk, run, read and write, make-believe. 10.2 got to be more about school and the books, carrying me into college. Each decade has had its own challenges and I think there's room to try new approaches and to explore in new directions for decades to come...
I think 'Disgust' should be characterized more as the Yuk-Yum continuum. It's not really an emotion, as much as a set of visceral responses to stimuli.
In the movie, Sadness was useful because it elicited compassion from the child's parents and that acceptance created emotional bonds, brought the family together... could Depression be a symptom of unacknowledged or unaccepted sadness in one's life? Parents who never showed that compassion? people who never learned to have compassion for themselves?
