Interesting articles, thanks for sharing! The Nobel Prize people... 'we just ignore complaints...' That is one way. I guess if they started taking some away, it would open any of the lauriates up to be questioned. But I can see how it tarnishes all the awards to have someone undeserving in the ranks.

Re: the zoo one, I read a book in college, A Crowded Ark. I remember that it outlined the whole dilema of whether zoos were helping or hurting, etc. ...it also outlined in detail the collection of sperm from big cats so that they could ship the sperm instead of the cat for stud... but I digress. (Funny what sticks with you after 9 years). Probably stuff has changed since then, but if you are interested in the subject, it might be a place to start. ^^

Ooh! *makes note of book* Thanks! That was one of the things about that article. You do end up wondering why they just don't artificially inseminate. O_o;; Seems it would make life easier all around.

I never really gave a second thought to whether or not zoos were helping until I took a tour at that rescue, and just the fact that they had cats there that were retired and/or unwanted from zoos kind of put it in new perspective for me. (I mean, zoos are for profit. They're a business. People come to see the cute babies and the animals on display. Animals that hide or have noticable birth defects are not going to be a big draw. And all those babies have to grow up at some point. Where do they go when they're not cute and cuddly anymore? >_>;;)

But yes...definitely want to read that now. ^___^ *glomps*

PS. I never would have noticed that they were spelled wrong if you hadn't said anything. XD I'm spelling stupid.

I wondered that, too... but I'm glad they were able to make them happier trying to figure it out. The trees and the move away from the tigers and all.

If I recall, the book may have some answers for you... I still mostly only remember the big cat lemon. ...there was a CSI:SVU episode where this woman collected human sperm that way, too.
