Now that Harry was back at work and his schedule was filling up, a lot of late nights and working through the weekend, the two of them had decided to set aside at least two nights a week to have a 'date night'. Mostly the two of them shared dinner together and a movie, simple but she felt like they saw little of each other lately that she didn't really want to share him. It nice just to cozy up in the sitting room or their bed, teasing each other and catching each other up on their days, while some mindless film played on in the background.
Though, tonight, she'd been inspired to make things a little bit more special. She wanted him to know how much she appreciated the effort he'd been making for their relationship. Even though there where nights they missed each other completely (even if they always woke up in the same bed, which was still the most amazing way to start her day) things had only gotten better. Skylar felt like they'd been connecting so well.
Skylar made stuffed shells for the two of them, similar to the lasagna that he loved so much but that meal had quickly become something that they made together. She added a side of roasted vegetables and baked a double chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting for dessert. There was sparkling cider, sodas, and butterbeer to drink, depending what he was in the mood for.
But what made the whole thing really special was the way she'd set up the sitting room. In the center she'd put out the little bistro table, just the way he'd set up on Valentines Day when he asked her to move in with him. She dimmed the lights, set floating candles in the air, and put out the fresh flowers that had started to bloom from their garden.
She scrambled a bit but everything was all set up by 5:50, ten minutes to spare from the time he'd promised to be home. Yes, that meant that she had taken a half day to prepare everything from scratch. It just tasted better than with magic.
Six o'clock came and went with no sign of Harry and by seven Skylar had put the lids back on all the food, hoping that the food wasn't ice cold.
When eight o'clock came Skylar had dipped into the reserve bottle of wine, just one glass but it was enough to calm her down and keep her from worrying.
Then nine o'clock passed by and she crawled onto the couch, smoothing out the navy blue dress she'd put on, and curled up. Her nude colored heels lay there on the plush rug, forgotten completely.
It didn't take very long for her to drift off, her dark brown curls a bit of a mess and her dress wrinkling as she pulled a pillow to her chest.
