I've been here before. It looks the same, but this time, I'm breaking through.

I went running today after work. After hitting an hour of running the bright and humid weather suddenly turned chilly. A fierce and cold wind began running over me. I stopped running and stared in the direction the wind was coming from. Above, a huge creature of immense darkness loomed over me. With a bright flash and the echo of a roar it let loose a barrage of rain. Within a second I was no longer sweaty, I was wet. I felt that uncomfortable soaked sock feeling as my toes squirmed in the wet trap they were now in.

Feeling the cold wind rush over me, the thunderous downpour reducing visibility to almost nothing. I stood there for a moment or two, soaking in the sheer power that is Nature. I am but a man, a creature, an insignificant and quiet being, against a timeless entity that transcended humanity, and perhaps, the world itself.

As I stood there, staring up at the dark sky, I felt my worries washing away, my thoughts being flooded with hope. In this world. There is no one to face the darkness with. And that was the beauty in it all. I took off my glasses and stood there. Then I began to laugh. I didn't think it was a creepy laugh, or a weird laugh, I was crying while laughing, but the rain disguised that. The people under the little veranda looked at me all weird. Everyone was gathered there except for me. The kids who had just been playing in the sandbox or swinging on the swings were now gathered under there with their parents. And they all looked at me. I brought the laughing to a stop and walked off the path to the dirt where I laid down in the wet dirt and grass. Enjoying the sensation. Feeling the rain fall on me.

It was one of the most beautiful afternoons I've ever had.
