We have an acquaintence who is 1/2 Japanese, who believes it will be just peachy to get an English degree and then go to Japan to teach English, where he will be welcomed with open arms. Keeping in mind that he's already been thrown out of the military, is on serious drugs for mental issues, and hasn't held a job in 4 years, I'm not sure how this is going to manifest, but even if he got the degree....I don't think he'd get the welcome he expects, and none of us have been able to beat this into his skull yet.

Finally after college she went to Japan to teach English and improve her pretty good Japanese (to the point that we use to use her to translate anime for us). She came back two years later with a much different opinion of Japan and the Japanese people. She got tired of having her butt pinched on buses and subways. She got a lot of flack for her Japanese accent which apparently had a Korean twang to it. She got tired of all Japanese men assuming that since she was american then she would put out. Now she had a great time too and wouldn't trade that time for the world but it did put the kybosh on that everything was perfect and wonderful in Japan.
