The bell of the door tinkled gently, signifying the appearance of someone. A customer, hopefully. The pink-haired seamstress turned around to face the newcomer. “Welcome,” she greeted with a smile. Business today was slack in Asmodin. One of the reasons was the crazy heat that came in a package with summer. Another was because the richer families have moved to their summer homes, therefore temporarily reducing the population of the small town.

A dignified with blue hair man smiled back in return. Luka’s eyes lit up with recognition. He was one of her regulars. He came from one of the upper-class estates who preferred to stay in town instead.

“Kaito!” she said happily. “What brings you here today? A present for your girl?”

Judging by the sheepish look on his face, Luka guessed she hit the nail. She laughed lightly. “I see… What’s the occasion then?”

“Her birthday’s next month, and I haven’t thought of what to give her,” he explained. “I thought maybe a dress would suffice.”

Luka suppressed a chuckle. “I see…” She looked around at her various display racks where many dresses were hung up for easy browsing. “Does she have any preference?”
Kaito leaned on the counter, propping his head up with his left hand and staring at the ceiling. “You have anything that’s blue?” he finally asked.

The seamstress’s sea-green eyes scanned the racks in the shop before switching her attention to an area cordoned off by curtains. She contemplated for a while. Behind those curtains are dresses that she have not yet put up for sale because of the design and price. They would probably stay in the shop for a long time. “You wait here,” Luka told Kaito as she headed towards the curtains. Within minutes she found what she was looking for.

Placing the blue dress on the counter, she laid it out for Kaito to have a good look at it. The dress was a stunning royal blue except for white ruffles at the neck. White cloth descended vertically through the front of the dress from the ruffles to the bottom. A black and white striped sash wound once around the waist, clasped in place in the middle with the excess drooping away from the pin. A ribbon, made from a smaller version of the sash was pre-tied at the neck of the dress. The sleeves of the dress was royal blue up to the cuffs which were also white. “Normally I wouldn’t allow dresses like this on the racks. But I’ll make an exception for you,” she told the blue-haired man teasingly. “I’ll give you a one-in-a-lifetime discount by Lukarna Octo, I’ll let you have this for… 90 pounds. How’s that?”

Kaito beamed and nodded. “I’ll take it,” he said. Pulling out a wallet, he paid the full sum and watched Luka pack the dress neatly into a box.

“Here. I hope she likes it,” Luka said cheerfully as she pushed the box across the counter. “And thanks for dropping by!”

“No problem,” Kaito replied, picking up the package. “You’re the best in town, Luka. See you!”
The seamstress watched as the blue-haired man walked out of the shop and brisk-walked across the street. That was one of the satisfactions of her job: seeing people being happy when wearing her clothes. She was about to turn back to sewing when a flash of violet caught her attention. Standing in the middle of the street, was a nobleman with long violet hair. His bright blue eyes bore into her before continuing his stroll, eventually vanishing out of sight. Luka realized she had been staring at the street long before he was gone. His name suddenly hit her hard.

“If I’m not wrong… That was, Duke Venomania,” she said to herself softly. She turned her attention back to her sewing machine. Try as she might, Luka could not get the intense gaze out of her mind. Maybe if she could have a glance at the nobleman again… Deciding to close the shop early, Luka headed out towards the part of the town where most of the nobles lived in.

It was nearly dark when Luka stopped outside a large white Victorian mansion at the end of the street. Tall black iron gates blocked the path into the house. Wow. I wonder who lives here, Luka briefly thought to herself as she searched for the familiar label that held the name of the owner. A light violet plate beside the gate was printed in bold letters: VENOMANIA, Gackpo. Luka’s eyes went back to the mansion. It was so… grand. The Duke must have lots of servants maintaining the place.

She gripped the iron gates lightly as she continued to marvel at the building. Without warning, the black gates opened. Shocked that the gates swung away, Luka stepped back quickly. The gates came to a stop after fully opening, yet nobody was around.

“Excuse me?” Luka called out from where she was standing. “Anybody?”

The dark brown doors at the end of the concrete path opened. However, it was an abyss of darkness beyond that. The intense blue eyes reappeared in her mind’s eye as the seamstress ventured forward. She swallowed thickly as she stepped past the threshold of the door. The blue eyes gave her the courage to keep walking forward.

Eventually she reached a large room. It was mostly dark except for a few lighted candles. The windows were visible but night had fallen and only stars twinkled in the inky sky. Tonight was the night of the new moon. A large black and red chair was in the middle of the room. Sitting on the chair was the same man she saw earlier that evening.

“I’ve been expecting you,” the Duke said, his rich baritone tenor sending pleasant tingles down Luka’s spine. “What’s your name?”

Luka curtsied. “Lukarna Octo, sir,” she answered softly.

In the dim light, she saw his lips twitch upwards. “Come closer, Ms Octo,” he said.

Luka found her legs moving slowly towards the Duke. A lamp was lighted, this time on a table beside the chair. The bright light highlighted the Duke’s face. Luka felt her face heat up as she took in the high cheekbones, the perfect curve of his face along with the light violet hair that framed his face perfectly. Amused lips smiled at her embarrassment.

“Ms Octo, you’re blushing,” he commented, drawing more blood to the woman’s face.
“Please sir, just call me Luka,” the seamstress said.

The Duke chuckled, a light breathiness accompanying the alluring tenor. “Alright then, Luka.” He stood up from his chair and walked over to her. The pink-haired woman felt his fingers caressing her face lightly before tilting her chin up to look at him directly in the eyes. “Can you stay for a while?”

The man who screamed perfection was in such close range. Luka felt herself growing weak in the knees. It was then she decided that nothing on Earth could make her leave the side of this god. “Yes,” she answered weakly.

The Duke smirked. This was easier than he though.

The town’s mayor was in his office sorting out papers when frantic knocking sounded at his door. “Come in,” he ordered.

A young man, with cropped pink hair dashed into the office. “Akaito, sir. My sister is missing!!” he said in a rush.

The red-haired mayor raised an eyebrow. “Slow down Luki,” he replied. “Take a few deep breaths.” He waited until the other was breathing normally. “Now what did you say, Lukarna is missing?”

The young man, Luki nodded. “Luka has been gone for about three days now. She was last seen in her shop around evening time. I’ve been asking around for the past three days and nothing’s come up.”

Akaito nodded slowly. “Alright. I’ll issue an official missing poster for Lukarna. Meanwhile, you tell everyone in town to keep a lookout for her.”
Luki nodded and turned to leave the office. The red-haired mayor sighed as he withdrew a small book. So much for wishful thinking that it was another normal day. He jotted down the date.
