Stupid Horoscope: Because You'd Hate It If You Missed It

Aug 25, 2010 16:54

"Gemini: You know a manufactured excuse when you see one. Let everyone else return to business as usual. You, however, won't be taken in."

That's right. No manufactured excuses. Organic excuses only, please, since I WILL NOT BE TAKEN IN (*wags finger at you*).

Anyway. It has been hot here for the last couple of days. I KNOW, insane, right? Tsk. Summer in San Francisco is supposed to be an island of serene coolness, though it is falling far short of that currently. AND! And I dropped my window fan, the one that lived with me for close to 20 years, and knocked the blades in it so far out of kilter that it vibrates enough to walk around when it is switched on. Is there something I can use that motor for now, I wonder? Something that ought to walk around?

I had a friend who once connected an old tape deck to his doorbell so that when someone rang the doorbell the spindles would turn and set some mechanism in motion...perhaps causing a toy bear to twirl around and ring a bell, but I forget exactly what happened when the doorbell rang and now my friend is off traveling in Asia so I can't ask him.

So I need to buy a fan today to replace my old one.

Anyway, gothchick_marie was sorting through boxes of her old letters and postcards. She told me about some of the stamps on them:
Ella Fitzgerald,
the Astrological sign Leo,
a spotted water beetle,
Margaret Chase Smith,
Snoopy,
a Toleware coffee pot,
Hershey's kisses,
a scorpion fly,
Oklahoma,
a ship painted by Dean Cornwell,
scenery,
salsa and merengue,
Katherine Anne Porter,
Cesar Chavez,
Minnesota statehood,
Navajo jewelry
and so many others. Really, the list began to sound dreamlike and oddly comforting. Anyone and anything can be commemorated on a postage stamp, practically.

gothchick_marie and I are having a movie date Saturday to celebrate our years of bestfriendship. Oh wait--this just in: now I have to WORK Saturday. Sheesh. Well sputter. The money will be nice, but, damn, a girl gets tired.

Sad news: an old coworker and friend died suddenly last night. RIP Sandra Moscardini. All of us loved you, who knew you.
