Part I
I have a folder called OOP and rare on my PC which features the following bands:
Barkmarket
90s punk/metal/alterna-whatever. loose and energetic. fun and weird.
albums: Lardroom [EP]; L Ron [LP]
Doubting Thomas
Skinny Puppy side project - cEvin Key and D.R. Goettel. dark, spooky.
album: The Infidel [LP]
Forever Ungratical Corinaric Technikilation [F.U.C.T.]
early 90s metal band from Kentucky. released one album - Dimensional Depth Perception - and subsequently disappeared from the face of the earth (apparently). one of my favorite albums ever - it changed the way i heard music. nonlinear, psychedelic, aggressive and dark, yet upbeat lyrically. a complete anomally for that time period.
album: Dimensional Depth Perception
Godbullies
90s punk-metal-ish. weird. something Butthole Surfer fans might like.
albums: War on Everybody [LP], Kill the King [LP]
Grotus
90s industrial metal. very organic sounding for that sort of genre. probably one of the first bands to incorporate synths and samplers in such a way that you didn't necessarily notice it - subtle, yet powerful.
album: Slow Motion Apocalypse [LP]
Intermix
Front-line Assembly side project - slightly more dance oriented. each of the three releases has a different sound to it, due to the sample theme. the "white" album is the darkest, due to the use of horror movie samples.
album: (the white album) [LP]
Pale Saints
90s "alternative" rock. their earlier stuff is kind of wimpy and lame, IMHO - but that's the stuff that fans of the band tend to like. those same fans hated "Slow Buildings", which is in my opinion fucking brilliant - particularly the tracks "Henry" and "Song of Solomon". "Slow Buildings" was written primarily by Meriel Barham (formerly of Lush) and Colleen Browne (new bass player).
album: Slow Buildings [LP]
Picasso Trigger
90s punk. loose, aggressive, and irreverent - the true spirit of punk. the track "Riot Girrrls Taste Like Chicken" is a perfect example - classic.
album: Bipolar Cowboy [LP]
Scorn
fairly well known ambient dub duo Nick Bullen and Mick Harris (later solo project of Mick). their first album - "Vae Solis" - is a bit of an anomaly, soundwise, compared to subsequent releases. this is primarily because this was one of the first things they did after leaving Napalm Death. it's dark, dubby, and edgey, alternatively or all at once.
album: Vae Solis [LP]
Swirl
the aussie band, not the british one. they had one release that made it to the states: "The Last Unicorn". kinda alterna-rockish, post-rockish. beautiful songs. lots of delay. killer sounds.
album: The Last Unicorn [LP]
Techno Animal
fairly well known side project of Justin Broadrick and Kevin Martin. their early stuff was psycho-ambient-dub, up until "Dead Man's Curse" and "Botherhood of the Bomb", which were more hip-hoppish. but their first album - "Ghosts" - is really strange. sonically, it's closer to early Godflesh, but without the vocals and more samples.
album: Ghosts [LP]
