Warhammer 40k: Biker Gangs

Here's another one for the Warhammer 40k people. Uninterested parties, you are forewarned.

I've mentioned my Ork Nob bikers in a previous post, and I've also talked about about their ridiculous effectiveness. Today I want to look at how they stack up against a very similar scary unit from the Eldar codex: the Seer council on jetbikes ( Read more... )

In close combat, people fight in Initiative order. The Eldar have the clear advantage there, especially after the Enhance Warlock power grants them a +1. So the Eldar get the chance to kill as many Nobs as possible before the Orks can fight back. Handy, since Nob bikers are super hard to take down.

This post makes me want to get more Ravenwing bikers. They are inferior to Eldar and orc bikes, but still, vroom vrooom!

The Orks have one big advantage, and it has to do with how an army is constructed. A legal 40k army needs an HQ unit and two Troops units. Normally Nobs are classified as Elite, but if you have a Warboss, you can take them as Troops. The entirety of the Eldar Seer Council (Farseer and Warlocks) counts as just one HQ selection. So if this was, say, a 1500-point game, the Eldar would have to come up with another 610 points of stuff to be legal ( ... )

Interesting, I didn't realize that the Eldar were so limited as far as how they take bikers. It seems Dark Angels would be superior based on the similar means they have to take bikers as troops if the HQ choice is the Master of the Ravenwing.

Oh, Eldar can also take Guardian squads on bikes, as well as Shining Spears. I was just looking for the equivalent to Nob Bikers. It's possible to do an entire Eldar army on bikes, if need be. It's just that the Farseer and Warlock are far and away the most powerful of the bunch.
