Weekend Update

Strangely, I am glad to be back at work today. It's not too hot in Santa Barbara. I can relax and not wonder what Finn is up to. The down side is having to wake up early, and getting Finn into his car seat.

I decided there was no good reason not to go to Disneyland on Saturday, so we went. Dad, per usual, volunteered to drive and help out. It was a good day, though hot. It's different managing a hot Disney day with a little guy. I'm so concerned with how he is doing that it's easy to forget I need to be hydrated. We got there early and spent the first part of the day in Fantasyland. We hit Peter Pan and Dumbo when the lines were fairly short. Finn is still too young for Goofy's Bouncy House in ToonTown.

Over in Disney's California Adventure, Finn slept so I got to go on Tower of Terror (such fun!). During his second nap I got to ride California Screamin', which I also love a lot. Finn got to get wet in a water play area. That would have been better if Finn hadn't burned the tops of his feet crawling on the hot ground. I don't think he noticed the burn though.

When it got too hot we hid in the Animation building. Finn could crawl around and it was air conditioned.

Truth be told we probably should have left around 4pm. It was hot, we were tired, but I had it in my mind that Finn should see the Electrical Parade. He was pretty cranky by the time it got to be 8:30, however he responded to the parade by sitting still and staying awake. I think he was in awe. Maybe later this summer we'll go down to Disneyland late in the day and watch the fireworks.

Sunday I got to run the Sunday School class. There were 12 kids, which is sort of a lot for summer. Thank goodness my friend Tim (Finn's fairy godfather) was helping out. We finished the curricula in about 20 minutes, so Tim decided we should all take a walk. Tim told the kids to find the letter Q, a bird, and Doris. Turns out he meant Ruth, which is a street. In the meantime he found a rosemary bush and taught everyone (myself included) about spittle bugs. Ewwwww!

Sunday evening Finn and I joined Tom and sons for a barbecue. Ayanna is at a librarian convention, same one Neil is at, so Tom and I were single parents together. We cooked yummy food, including one of my garden zucchinis, and then ate ice cream. This was the first time Finn seemed to enjoy ice cream. Usually it's too cold for him.

Finn's eyes have gone back to producing enough goo to be sealed shut after sleeping. However, I really believe it's just a cold. I'm sort of raspy and coughing a little. I sort of like this symbiotic living where he and I share ailments. It gives me an idea of what he is experiencing. I plan to take him back to the doctor if he is still gross on Saturday. Either that or child care requires a doctor's note. Hopefully he'll just get better. Soon.
