i think ... i don't remember which medium i first adopted "skritchin" in. but i vaguely remember i was trying to think of a pseudonym for something (an e-mail address, an isp, a live-journal) and real words just weren't doing it for me.
I started trying to figure out the emotion I wanted to represent. solitary, crackling, malicious, clawing, feral, graceful, serpentine and somehow i invented skritchin.
to me, skritchin is like the aliens in "alien." The sounds they make with their breathing, and their clawing, the act of moving intently, low and predatorily, the act of moving every single vertibrae one at a time as they elongate themselves to a stand. the act of being sleek and graceful, yet mischievious and jittery ... perhaps ....
that's the fun of a made up word. it means the facet of it that you want it to mean at the time that you need it :)
