Hallo alle, wie gehts?
I've been a neglectful journaler, but I blame LJ for always being in read-only mode when I have time to post. Some things:
I've been in a much much better mood. Things are shaping up nicely,
when I have a good sense of where my life is headed I'm much better at
not worrying myself into oblivion about everything. My relationship
recently reached a very grown-up level and I'm happy about it. As a
girl who has been shady about commitment in the past, knowing that
someone likes me enough to want to be around me in a serious way...it
allows me to let go of a lot of petty insecurites? But not all. I'm not
one to rest on my laurels.
I'm being obtuse on purpose.
I caught a cold from Sut Jhally. ONLY because we have been in close
proximity at Media Ed (www.mediaed.org) this week. I gave him my
surefire cure, Yogi Ginger tea (it has black pepper in it!) and he
liked it. It's so great to not be as intimidated by him anymore.
I was feeling unpretty yesterday so I finally went to Glamorama in
Northampton for an expensive haircut. My usual place charges 10
dollars, and it looks like it. My new do is very...German? It's modern,
if you wanted to cast Neurotic Art Student, it'd look like me. The
chick really loved my eyebrows and decided that the world should behold
them, so she cut my bangs real short. I like it, but I still can't wait
to have long long hair that I can rumple. That's my favorite look for
hair--rumpled.
SINCE I AM BEING GIRLY--I gave the O.C. a chance. I have this sick
obsession with watching the very stuff I denounce. It's fair, and since
I'm trying to critique this stuff, it makes sense to get a working
knowledge of it, right? Culture is best learned by immersion, right?
The verdict? It sucks, BUT, the music IS good. I'm looking forward to
March 10 when they will play FIVE new Beck songs. Good bands play on it
all the time, and there was a hilarious episode where everytime Summer
took her top off in front of Cohen, Super Furry Animals song "Hello
Sunshine" would start playing. It was very funny.
I have to confess that I have fallen prey to the Adam Brody/Rachel
Bilson thing. I really like it when people do Old Hollywood stuff. For
instance, I like that Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler have become their
own little institution the way Bogart and Bacall and countless others
used to be. Kind of. Anyhow, the fact that they date in real life does
make the banter more appealing. The bickering and devoted affection
reminds me a LOT of me and my little obsessive music freak.
AND, Rachel is Filipina and Hispanic! A half-breed like myself. And Adam Brody...well...
Look at that bone structure! That scruffiness! (Don't be jealous Boy, you have these too)
Speaking of Boy. We're leaving Saturday on a Meet the Parents Tour of
the east coast. I'm going to eat a peach in Georgia! And go bowling
with my sister!
Have a wonderful break everyone,
CR
