I went out to my car on Friday to go to the store, and it wouldn't start. All I got were some clicking sounds. I figured the battery was dead, so I left it for today. This morning, I called AAA, and they sent out a guy with a couple of little boxes that he hooked to the battery. I turned the key, and it started right up. He asked when I'd gotten the battery, and I said it had been with the car when I bought it, and he offered to sell me a new one, but I figured I could get it cheaper, so I drove out to Jax Beach (since Google Maps said there was an Advanced auto parts store not far from a Toyota dealer.
I couldn't find it. I ended up at a NAPA auto parts store, since I'd seen it while looking for the other one. I went in and told the guy I needed a new battery, and he said he could test it, but not on the car. I told him I didn't have tools, and he pointed me to a cardboard box at the end of the counter. So, I took the box out to the car and rummaged through its grimy contents for a wrench the right size to remove the battery terminals.
No dice. So, I went in and grabbed a wrench off the shelf. The guy said I could take it and pay for everything at once. So, I went out and tried it, but the wrench I'd chosen was too small. So, I took it back and got one the right size and removed my battery.
He put my battery on the tester, and it said retest after charging, but I figured it was time for a new one.
They didn't have a major brand for my car, but the battery was about half what the AAA guy's battery was. I asked if they would install it, and the guy said no. But he gave me some paper towels for my hands.
I give credit to the cashier (not to NAPA) for one thing: he did ask if I had a AAA card, which covered the cost of the wrench.
So, hopefully the new battery is all the car needed. I ran some errands around town and picked up some groceries.
I went to the new Publix near St. John's Town Center, and I think I'll be shopping there from now on.
Stockholder loyalty to Wal-Mart aside, Publix has organic food, their staff is friendly (although a little too present for my tastes), their store is not perpetually crowded like the Wal-Mart on Kernan, their cashier knew without my telling her what my canvas bags were for, and to top it all off, they sell large canvas shopping bags.
Also, it's a lot closer, so I can spend time hunting for a parking space at the dorm instead of driving all the way from Atlantic Blvd.
My mom called me today to tell me the local video store there has messed up again. They have a problem with their movies not being checked back in properly, so she's going to go down and yell at someone, because we returned that movie, and this isn't the first time they've called and asked when we were planning to bring back something we'd returned.
I added a paragraph to the Proverbs page on my website. I've done some other things, but I'm too tired and too busy to properly update it today.
I need to go track something down for my first Reporting story. God bless you all. Have a great day in the Lord!
[Edit: By the way, on the plus side, that facial tic has gotten a lot less frequent. I'm almost positive it's from my sinuses.]
